I don't know why Texas wants to be its own country. When they were their own country they had an abysmal standard of living and tried to join the union several times but were denied. Im also pretty sure the US government would stomp out any state trying to secede no problem.

I think it's funny you guys think Texas couldn't support itself. On it's own, it's the fifteenth largest economy in the entire world, it has tons of natural resources to export, and as a cool addition NASA is stationed in Texas.

Pretty much this. While the chances of Texas actually leaving the Union are pretty slim, saying that it wouldn't be able to survive is just handicapped. Comparing Texas today (I'm talking to you devildog), in the 21st century mind you, to a completely undeveloped and unsettled badlands is just plain ridiculous. YOU JUST DONT DO IT. THERE WAS NO INFRASTRUCTURE AND SANTA ANNA AND THE MEXICANS (band name ho!) WERE JUMPING DOWN THEIR THROATS ALL THE DAMN TIME. This is like saying the US shouldn't be friends with England because they're just going to try and turn us into a colony again.

i can't think of any important NASA facilities in texas anyway

and im kindof a space junkie, so yeah. i mean i guess they have like a mission control center, but that's essentially just a bunch of computers and people with microphones sooo.. doesn't really matter WHERE it is, it happens to be in texas but could relatively easily be relocated somewhere else

NASA headquarters are in D.C., kennedy space center is in florida, JPL is in california, various other research facilities located around the country... saying NASA is in texas makes no sense

the SPACE SHUTTLE PROGRAM was canceled. and it was nothing more than a super-expensive flying scrapheap barely capable of reaching low earth orbit with a load of cargo. so that was a very good thing. it should have been canceled decades ago.
