Author Topic: Roku or Apple Tv?  (Read 1039 times)

Going to get one of these but i'm not sure which to get.

Please help

I've heard underwhelming reviews of the older Apple TV models. Not sure of Roku. I suggest you compare reviews if you haven't already, I'd be surprised if many BLers invested in either of these (esp. the Apple TV, I doubt anyone has a legitimate opinion on them).

Do you have Apple products already? (ex. MacBookPro, iMac, iPhone, etc)

If so you can use the Remote application on all of those devices, And for computers you can wirelessly stream your computers desktop to your Apple TV(AirPlay). Theres allot of other features but I am not sure, I will look into more.

If you are into iCloud then thats also a good feature.

inb4AppleSucks, Buy Roku even tho I have no idea what it is.

Yeah in addition to this topic I was also going to Google some reviews

Alright. Tried any Mac Forums too? Technology focused forums are more reliable for this kind of stuff. The BL forums are pretty good for PC building discussion but useless for much else tech related lol.

Not to mention they are anti-Apple.

I have an apple tv and it handles pretty well, but it does fall under the classic apple trap of replacing service with graphics in a lot of places.

It's not like we have a moral problem with Apple (even though their treatment of workers is a reason to, not to mention their enviromental destruction and various lawsuits over copyright infringement for the basic reason of "it's shiny, has rounded corners, you unlock it, and it has glass, so it's stolen from Apple.", their attempts to cut out other businesses from the market and various other legitimate reasons to hate them). Most of us don't buy/suggest Apple products because, to be blunt, they're not worth the price. Sure, you get a shiny, fenced off platform where everything looks Web 2.0, but when it comes to specs, Wintel PCs win every single time. I could go on with a bunch of reasons to hate Apple, but I'd rather not bring all the hate of some company to a thread about a question.

Maybe because Apple is anti-technology? :cookieMonster:

I own both. I highly recommend the Apple TV over the Roku. Absolute worst case scenario you can jailbreak your ATV. You can even get Boxee on there. The Apple TV simply controls way better, and as an added bonus you can stream video directly to it from your computer (although you must do it through iTunes) which I use just about every time I want to watch a movie I don't have a disc of.

Can do that from pc, or do you need an apple laptop of some kind?

You can do it from a PC. Apple is surprisingly good about supporting Windows.

We will probably end up getting Apple Tv anyways. We have lots of apple devices so it makes sense.
