....Yeah... i have some other interesting stories about him...

Tell them!

Scientifically it's nothing. It's just words.
It's like saying "time moves slowly if you eat fast" or "plasma is some kind of stuff"
"eventually the world will stop spinning" yes, and eventually nothing will be where it is now, and apples won't exist

The days are actually getting temporarily shorter until the winter solstice.

your friend is an idiot.
sure, the days are getting shorter, but it's not the ''END OF THE WORLD RUUUUUUUN!!!!11''.

And also, it would only be an "eternal day" if the earth was spinning at the exact same rate as the earth went around the sun, so for example if it stopped spinning altogether then we would have half-year days.

So, your friend is stupid.

Well for starters, time itself wouldn't stop as that's impossible
you don't know that

I think he meant a rotational day, not a daylight day.

you don't know that
Considering that 'time' is not 'the rotation of the earth', it doesn't make sense to say it in this context.

Actual time stopping is a possibility, however if it were to happen, it wouldn't matter anyway, because all energy in the universe would 'pause' until time were to start again, and so when it 'unpauses' we wouldn't know, nothing would have changed, and so, to reiterate, it doesn't matter anyway.

If it never 'unpaused', that'd be fine too. Although thinking about how we would handle that makes my brain hurt.

If it slowed down or sped up no one would notice.

brown townogy time!

Say you have a basketball and a marble. Put the marble to the surface of the basketball and roll it in a straight line all the way around until it reaches the starting point. The circumference of the basketball represents the earth's orbit around the sun. The marble will make many revolutions as it circles the basketball once. This represents the day/night cycle. In order for the marble, or earth, to stop spinning, it would have to stop rolling across the basketball. Same goes vice versa, the orbit around the basketball can't stop unless the marble stops spinning. Therefore, the earth can't stop spinning unless either itself or the sun stops existing. So the day the earth stands still (and ultimately gets itself baked) is the day the sun goes supernova.

He is wrong, there is nothing going to happen on December 21st this year.  The differences that the Mayan Calendar and our current calendar have are not accounted for with this idea and with those differences accounted for we would've been dead already.

but the sun isn't going to go supernova, makanix!!!

Exactly, so the world isn't going to stop any time soon... I probably should have added that.
