Not saying the nuclear bombs weren't bad. What I'm saying is testing nerve gas on innocent civilians is a pretty forgeted up thing to do. Most major countries have done some pretty awful things in the last 200 or so years.

You've got to test it on someone i suppose, doesn't justify it though, nothing can. I'd be suprised if there wasn't a country that had done something disgusting in the 200 years.

I like Japan's history, it's not really one of the subjects taught in countries like America and England but it's brilliant. If you want to find out about it you have to do it yourself though, which sucks.

i do not see the craze about japan

sure its an o.k. country but its only income is via technology and the fact that the rest of the world rolls head over heels for everything kawaii and desu desu desu

I don't think people realize how tragic it was until they either experience it in person or talk to someone about it. Hearing my classmates talk about it was scary. A huge earthquake hits and they're told to evacuate immediately. They wait a few minutes not knowing what's up and suddenly a black wall of water comes up and over the tsunami wall destroying everything in it's path. They went from laughing and talking to watching their town get ruined and changed permanently in two hours. I don't know how I'd be able to deal with that emotionally. They also didn't have any power for the first few weeks after the tsunami so the rest of the world knew more about the tsunami than people in my town did.

I appreciate Japan for it's culture and it's geography, it would be false to say that anime is not a part of their culture and I do appreciate that side, but I mostly appreciate the "real" side of their culture, for example I love the way family is such an important thing in Japan, the level of family bonding that is normal over there is just something you struggle to find in the west, I also really appreciate how humble the Japanese people are

It's actually quite sad that the anime portion of their culture seems to be the only culture the rest of the world hears. Japan's culture is really cool and I like it a whole lot more than the culture/norm in America. I really like the respect and humbleness of Japan.

I don't really know anything about Japanese history really except for things around WWII, they were pretty terrible people then. Their science experiments on the Chinese were probably as bad as the national socialist's.

They were terrible before and during WWII. That's why everyone hates Japan in east Asia.

I also really appreciate the concept of Shintoism, you pray every day at local shrine, thanking the local guardian deity for watching over the land and that's that, it's something really simple and easy and something I could get behind, even if the whole thing is completely unfounded in terms of scientific merit and I am an atheist.
I would willingly convert to Shintoism just because I think it's a wonderful thing that people can have something to believe in and something to put faith into.

Well, not to start anything religious but, the only reason I became an atheist is because I can't stand how skewed and corrupt the majority of Christianity has become, though I don't believe in any gods I do believe that having something to believe in is a good thing for your mind

The worst is with the school kids. They get pressured so much from parents, the schools, and themselves. The High School entrance test is brutal too. When you hear about a kid committing Self Delete, it's really rather sad. :(

I know...it's just a cultural thing, which was especially important back in the day. It's just too bad people get pushed that far.
