evolution is not a "belief"

it's a scientific loving fact

lol wheatley you're so dumb XD

evolution is not a "belief"

it's a scientific loving fact
more like a theory
and I'm trying to be fair here, why else would I call it a belief

No
An atheist believes that no supreme beings exist
It's a lack of belief, not a belief in a lack
It's a subtle difference in wording but a major difference in meaning. The difference is that the latter in an assertion. Atheism does not assert anything, it simply rejects the assertions of other religions.

kind of like how evolution is a belief
evolution is not a "belief"
it's a scientific loving fact
This.
Also if you're attempting to say that all atheists accept evolution and therefore form a common set of beliefs, no they do not all accept it

On top of that, Atheism isn't a lack of religion. It's a lack of belief in divine beings.
Technically true, however in the context of the prevalence of theistic religions in western society, lack of religion is heavily implied.

more like a theory
I really hope you're not attempting to abuse the word 'theory' in an intellectually dishonest way the way creationists do with their "it's only a theory!" thing
A scientific theory is backed with a lot of supporting evidence

this thread is horrible

I wasn't trying to say that, although I admit that, looking back on it, I suppose it sounds like I was

literally the next line in the message:
I'm trying to be fair here, why else would I call it a belief
My point was that he was calling it a fact, where facts are basically unquestionable. I agree completely about the  abuse of the word "theory" in religious arguments.

But seriously, I don't feel like this argument is getting anywhere. It's just become an argument on word definition vs. the social meaning of a word.

i laughed so hard when he actually listened to trogtor and put "merica" in the poll

merica is something to do with sea snails or some stuff

Yeah these polls always get stupid because the OPs go crazy with adding stupid stuff to the poll

athiest i guess? i mean i believe that god exists, but i dont follow any religion of any sorts. i dont think he's like someone who should be worshiped, but he's just there. kind of like the sun, but he doesn't actually do anything for us.

That's theist, irreligious.

I think you're a deist. If you had to fit into one of the categories I'd say agnostic.
