no everyone is being an starfish(jk sure)

-snip for inability to read topic-

Look up a definition of religion (you could use he one I gave you) and tell me how atheism fits any of those points

http://atheism.about.com/library/FAQs/ath/blathm_rel_religion.htm
Then what do you consider atheism to be? Just a belief? I'd say that it should be considered a person's religion, even if only loosely. I don't see what other category it fits into.
And don't get too focused on definition, either. When people ask you your religion, they're asking how you believe the universe was created, what, if any, beings you worship, etc. Replying that you're Atheist gets the point across just as any other religion would, and is a valid answer.

atheism is like the opposite of religion
And yet still can be classified as a religion. Just because it's not practiced, belongs to no official church, and has no official book stating the guidelines of it, it's still a religion. It can define your set of beliefs just as well as replying with anything else would.

yay someone broke the tension

It's not a religion! It's a belief.

it's not a religion. yes, it's a valid answer when someone asks you what your religion is. just like it's a valid answer to say "none" when someone asks you what sports you play. that doesn't mean not playing sports is a sport.

It's not a belief because because you don't believe in anything.

It can define your set of beliefs just as well as replying with anything else would.
Except for that fact that atheism has no beliefs

You can not believe in a god but that defies the very definition by calling it a religion.

You people are handicapped. We all obviously knew what he meant by putting atheism and agnosticism up there.

Let's actually talk about beliefs and religion now instead of spewing useless bullstuff about word-choice.

No
An atheist believes that no supreme beings exist
which is a belief
kind of like how evolution is a belief

On top of that, Atheism isn't a lack of religion. It's a lack of belief in divine beings. Atheism also holds the place of a religion, just as how one can't be Christian and Jewish at the same time.

I suggested this a while back
Now, let's stop before we get into the war of the words.
