Author Topic: RTB Dedicated Hosting Service - Service Closing  (Read 361736 times)

So i dont know if the problem im having is with all servers or just my RTB server

i was fiddlling with some environments and i had a day cycle on at the same time i was changing the length of it, and the server decided to lag out. so i had to restart, but when i was restarting, it took way longer than usual, and i had to force shut down as it was rebooting, and now its working again..

this has happened before with the default daycycle and ones i downloaded, i dont know if i should post it in this thread because it was on a RTB server or what

EDIT: i just tested it again changing the cycle from 300 to 150 and it crashed once again.

Are you running the daycycle events? you should get rid of those. It causes those crashes.

Can we change the RTB chat's color from pink to something else?

Haven't decided yet. We're doing some urgent work that unfortunately comes before deciding the winner. Will hopefully announce it within a week.

Monitoring on NY02 has picked up a lot of hammering to the disk recently, could be the cause of some issues. We're continuing to monitor this to avoid any possible issues and are looking at the possibility of deploying Intel SSDs into our next set of servers to further aid disk I/O.

If you had any insight into the finances, which you don't, and understood the benefits an SSD gives, which you also don't, you'd understand why buying an SSD is a bad idea.
Since we've had NY01, it has spent 2.31% of time on the disk, you really have no idea how Blockland works and why an SSD would be a waste. Boot times aren't important because the server never restarts, power isn't important because it's included in the price I pay and life span isn't important because I get free replacements and take backups. SSDs are prone to failure, have had a whole disk array of SSDs fail from power loss with one provider, no point taking that risk and the extra cost for minute performance gains.

Great, you got me, well done. I never knew BL servers would hit the disk so much and apparently in the 6+ months since January they started doing it. Lots has changed since January, we were only 2 months into the game then, we've now got well over 6 months experience and host just under 100 servers, clearly enabling us to better gauge the hardware requirements of our service. Plus with our existing provider, SSDs were well out of the budget, with the new provider we're testing out, not so much.

Jasa,  I can do nothing but apologise to you for striving to improve our service with better hardware, and compulsively lying to you about all things Blockland hosting. I can offer you a free month of Kaphost if that would make you feel better?

No thanks, I still have 7 months left that haven't even started yet along with a spare computer I could always host on. But thanks for the offer. I'm glad I could help.

Regarding loading auto-saves, is there a way to make it so that you can load them into the server without clearing all bricks in the process?

This is number 1 priority after some urgent work we're currently doing. This functionality will be available very soon.

I was using Rusty's server for my build and it was saved on there- problem is the server got terminated. I'm getting an RTB server but I need to get my save back, help?
