It looks like a check box to me, you can click it to turn it on and safe seach will say on.Click it again and it doesn't say anything, much like how yours is now.It's totally this, I just tried searching and there's clearly a difference.
Log out of google.I think it does that based on your age you put in for the google acnt.
This is great, now you can actually find the images you want. If you want research, it's still there (you can simply append "research" to your query), but not when you search for unrelated things.
Use Bing.
