If you want an online RPG with a monthly free that is stale, try Runescape. Its really enjoyable when i get into it.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is actually pretty good and Mass Effect 1-2 are enjoyable as well. If you're into action RPGs that is. You also might want to check out Dark Messiah of Might and Magic if you can get over the graphical quality, it really is a solid and entertaining game. Then there's the Dragon Age series but that left a bad taste in my mouth. The Mount & Blade series could be considered RPGs but it has a little different gameplay.

But if you want good ol' regular RPGs then yeah, you're looking for the Elder Scrolls and Fallout series.

Dubloon is pretty good, for a freeware RPG anyway.  It's pretty heavily Earthbound-inspired, though, so it debatably qualifies as "eastern".
