Author Topic: Lack of Blockland?  (Read 2815 times)

Well every time I play Blockland I don't really know what to build, like I could build any thing but nothing that's really interesting or hasn't been done before. Does any one else feel like this? I would make a spaceship build but I hate making them on some thing instead of in mid air where it looks cool and is fun. I think most builds are getting old or redone in different ways but nothing really new or fun. I remember a time where players would make Space stations/space ships and have Death matches in them and/or role play, now its mostly RPG's or Builds where the rules are the same. Get axe, cut down trees for money, build a house, mine in mines... its getting old.

Well the real good reason I made this topic is to discuss what we could do in the future rather then the same stuff.

damn packer....harsh, i never really thought of it like that but ya , your right it is getting old but with the progression with new weapons/ vehicles the builds are usually themed to the most recent one etc . ive seen it before and before time again where they base a rpg off of some weapon in some way but sometimes they become cool when they do it the first time or in a extravegent way. :o

I feel that way. I get on blockland because it has a broad range of anything you can build, but I never know what to build. Another problem we are having is the noobs. I believe they are taking over blockland, again. But, we can't do anything about them...  When I get home tonight from school, Ill host a nice space deathmatch- no noobs.

I don't have school, I am host now!

well im giving the community the benefit of the doubt that they USE to build but don't now.
I guess they just plain never did.

Point remains that pretty much every server you cant find any building going on.
I don't see what your elitist statement is going to change.

I much prefer building when it's needed, such as in Mr. Wallet's server.

I'm out of ideas :( I need more

my server has all weapons removed, and limit 1 vehicle per person, but usually end up banning anyway when they just drive around and do nothing.

Meh server is teh fooling around unless a theme is put in place.

I find that I go on BL mainly to see what others have made or any new mods that are out there to 'spice it up'.

Sadly I too feel the growing sting of monotony dwelling within BL.

I think we need more interactive bricks. Sort of like fire, but maybe some like electric bricks so we can make triggered doors with wires and stuff that you build. Sort of like Wiremod for Gmod. Adds a whole new level of gameplay to a game.

I would also like to see a story mode for BL. (I know it sounds odd). Sort of like, you can specify a start mission, make a scenario and have trigger events like enemies, doors, objectives and such.

Part of it may be that even an epic build becomes boring quickly if there is nothing to do in it.  DM and Challenge builds are popular because they offer entertainment beyond the visual.  I believe the upcoming interactive brick system will add a whole new level of entertainment to builds.  Instead of just wandering around a good build for a bit then leaving, you'll want to look for secret areas, avoid traps and play with stuff.

In the mean time, my favorite things are challenge builds and theme-based community builds.  I had pretty good success hosting the 32x32 city build.  If you want to have a good group build, you can't just say "build X" you have to give people a framework like the road grid.  Group builds can be a lot more entertaining than just building by yourself because other people do things you might not expect.

You could build a museum and leave 16x16 gaps in it for people to fill in with statues.

Another idea I had was to build a large maze out on a 16x16 grid, but only build the walls - then leave the floor open for people to fill with cool stuff.  That way it would be entertaining to go through the maze and see the cool stuff people built.  You could even leave some 32x32 gaps in for people to build little challenges in.

I don't think the possibilities for "slides" have been exhausted.  I've seen some large slides built but they're just floating in space.  It would be cool to see one that goes through an interesting environment.
