The reason why there are characters/ events that weren't in the novel is because Peter Jackson isn't just making The Hobbit (a huge part though), but a film based on the history of Middle Earth at the around the time of The battle of Five Armies. He is using lore from The Silmarillion and the appendices from Return of the King. Also why would you have a problem with Azog? Read the lore and then speak.

Also it's very possible that Orcs joined the Goblins in The Battle of Five Armies, hence Azog being there.

My dad was reading the news paper today and said "I thought The Hobbit was supposed to be a kids movie?" I looked over at him and laughed. I told him its not made for kids. He then read how its all blood and gore.
I have to watch the LOTR series before i see it x.x

Couple points:

Azog the Defiler was beast. Was a very cool bad guy

Necromancer was introduced but nothing came of him? Expecting more in 2nd part

Dwalin's accent was YES

The movie could have done with out Raddigast (The brown wizard) but he was entertaining, what with the bunnies and all.

The lack of orcs kind of dissapointed me, since I loved the Orc fights in the LoTR movies

The music: incredible. Truly incredible.

All in all I enjoyed the movie through and through and is a easy 10/10 in my mind. Fully pumped for the next part. The desolation of Smaug.

Except the necromancer was in fact mentioned in the book and was the reason Gandalf temporarily disappeared at a few points. Did you even read it?
