Overview
SimCity is a city simulation game with infinite possibilities. It is the sixth major release of the Simcity series. Using a new engine called "GlassBox", the depth of simulation has been been deepened further. Unlike previous installments, everything you see on screen is simulated - from roads to the individual person. Manipulate power, water, taxes, costs, education, transportation and see how your sims react. Maybe you want to build a casino city? Fine. A high wealth and highly educated technological city? All possible! Every action you take affects the game.

Multiplay
For the first actually second time ever, you are able to play with your friends and family! You can benefit from neighboring cities by trading resources (water, power), and the negative things can impact neighboring too! High crime in your city? Watch them rob your friends banks! Fire in your city? Friends fire trucks are on the way! There is also a global market with fluctuating prices. Your city not only impacts your game, but everyone's.

they killed it for me when they announced the always-on DRM

not going to buy it unless that changes

It's not just a DRM. In one of the videos a developer says that a large part of the city simulation is done on EA servers and the data is then sent to your computer. You must have internet connection to play the game. This kind of killed the game for me.

I had to play "use a professional sociological simulation" called SimCity 4 in a STEM Science course in 8th grade.

I loving hated my group.

We then had to build a physical part of our city using found objects.

I loving hated my city.

And then we had to make a PowerPoint.

I loving hated my PowerPoint.

I don't see why it's a problem.
Then again, my internet only goes off once every few weeks, maybe

I don't have a problem with the online requirement, since I'm always online on my PC and if it really bothers me I can use a crack
SimCity is a too good game for me to give it up because of an online requirement

Seems like it's going to be a very good sequel to simcity 4, Perhaps it would be much better as a offline game?

Do not talk about pirating software

from what i seen, the cities can no longer get massive and awesome :\
its like they want you to build in these bitty lots. and you dont even own the lot next door.

plus even blockland has its own "drm"
you cant even play it without net connectivity at least once to enable the key.
and then every update requires yet another.
and then being online in a multiplayer game requires one like whatever intervals it checks.

its all the same song and dance

Even if you crack it, simulating the city requires a connection to EA servers.

I dont see why EA made it like that, wouldnt it just be more expensive for them to always keep up those servers?

Not if they eventually charge monthly.

the always-online isn't that big of a problem unless it won't have any offline function, but then again like Bisjac said it doesn't look like it can get as big as it normally could get in SC4/3/2/etc. which also kind of irritates me.

it's like it looks nice and all but it's not something I want to pay $60 for.
