Author Topic: Unreal World - It's like Haven & Hearth with a splash of Dwarf Fortress.  (Read 2583 times)

So naturally a lot of people are going to hate it.

Unreal World(URW) is a game 20 years in the making -- as described here. So far it's quite fun if a bit slow. The learning curve, so far, is a lot less steep than, say, Dwarf Fortress. Essentially, you're put in Iron-Age Scandinavia and made to find your way in the rough wilderness, and you're free to forge your own path however you see fit. You could become a hermit, trader, fisherman, hunter, mercenary, etc. Every action is done from the skills menu, so something like casting a fishing net or building a fire is easy if you know what you need to do it. Character creation is a little unorthodox, and can take a while, but it's worth it once you get further into the game.

The payment plan for this game escapes me. You can get a free version, or you a paid version. The differences between the two so far have only manifested themselves to me as extra starting scenarios.

The description of the game made it sound great, but those real life pictures in the game completely turned me off.

I never really found enjoyment in most games like this, but I think I may have found an exception.

Today I learned that you cannot, in fact, drink a woodcutter's axe.

I just couldn't get into this.

Finally someone made a thread for this. It is like Finland in the 15th century. You can die of frostbite and stuff! C:

Why are people still making lo-res isometric survival games.

I've tried this out a bit, pretty fun if you don't get stabbed in the head by five foreign traders.

are you kidding me, $35 for this? thats loving ridiculous. the most they should be costing is like $5.

I agree, $35 is a powerful lot. I suppose there are better games out there.

If it takes you 20 years to get a beta of a game that's been done hundreds of times before, you NEED TO GIVE UP.

This has been done. It doesn't need to be done again.

He released v1 in 1992. He's just been piling stuff onto it for 20 years.
Maybe you should read the article.
