Author Topic: My parents are skeptical about me hosting.  (Read 4619 times)

No, it is very complicated, if not that, IMPOSSIBLE to hack through port forwarding. If your parents still don't like the idea, use RTB hosting. It requires payment but it is impossible to be hacked through, since the hosting is done on another computer. RTB is very proffesional and I reccomend it if your parents are worried. I use RTB for my Jail Escape.

you cant really DDoS/DoS a server unless you have acess to a server hosting service that the player was using
You don't know what you are talking about.

Well, it turns out that BareBones is important enough for hackers to constantly keep checking the network for open ports. My parents are mostly afraid of spammers, viruses, and hackers, and with all due respect to you guys, they do this stuff for a living. I think they know more than you do.

And about RTB, can someone send me a link to it and explain how it works? And how much does it cost?

Well that is pretty bogus.

Do what for a living exactly? Are they trying to spread panic and fear to increase their business?  :cookieMonster:

As I said, my stepdad is the president of Barebones software and codes for a living, and my mom is the only person that manages a certain university's website full-time.

And again, can someone please explain dedi hosting to me?

Well software design doesn't really have much bearing on networking, and the only reason your mother would be concerned is because she is managing a large network that is prone to a lot of traffic and security threats.

Your at home router is not a target, hosting a game on it with port forwarding will make you no more likely to be attacked. If there really is a competent hacker out there wanting to get into your home network for whatever ludicrous, unlikely reason, they'll find a way in whether you port forward or not.

yeah, but its more like a letter than a post
you're such a tart it hurts.

why does it matter if he formats it like that.

your parents dont know jack stuff about anything IT
i dont care what you think their jobs entail, they arent knowledgeable enough to understand ports.

Excuse me? I think a couple of 40-somethings who spend a good portion of almost every weekday managing a regularly used university website and managing a loving SOFTWARE COMPANY have more knowledge about programming and networks than you do.

Dude, that was rude.

His dad owns a software company, Jesus.

...just because he owns doesn't mean he has the skills of every job the company employs.
