Author Topic: Why do boy scouts get so much flack?  (Read 4591 times)

Going off the stereotype that all boyscouts are gay, don't you think it's silly to assume they're all virgins?

EDIT: They exclude athiests, agnostics, and homoloveuals.
Boo loving hoo.
Just pretend to be straight if you want in that bad.

Boy scouts is really just a scheme for the scoutmasters to forget little boys.

Because they are a Christian organization. Which makes no sense. Survival skills are not exclusively Christian.

Fix'd.

..girls can be gay
I remember there was this nice girl who would talk to me. Then she told me she was a lesbian.

It seems like the vast majority of the people bashing Boys Scouts weren't actually scouts. But it's definitely a unique experience that's hard to explain to "outsiders", although it really does varies from place to place. Our troop wasn't a group of sheltered 12 year old's and didn't really take the whole religion portion very seriously, But I've heard about some troops that do very strongly.

But as an Eagle Scout I can say it was a great experience, I learned about things I probably wouldn't of even bothered to try if I wasn't a Scout. I also learned some leadership and people skills I probably wouldn't of otherwise being home schooled (Another thing that seems to get a lot of flack, but that's another discussion).

Our troop wasn't anything like the kid in UP. Sure we had our batch of annoying 12 year old's, but they where only as annoying as every other 12 year old and usually had grown out of it by the time they where 14. None of the boys in the troop where anymore sheltered or nerdy then other boys, and most of them where in the 15 to 18 age range.

We went on plenty of camping trips. Ranging from short car camping trips, to summer camps, hiking trips and canoeing trips. We've even slept at Space Center Houston and the USS Lexington.

I don't agree with the policies of the organization, and their websites and schemes are rather bullstuff. But if I had the choice of doing it again I definitely would.

My mom works with this lady and she has a kid that's loving terrible to hang out with. Of course whenever they invite me to do something I have to say yes because my mom would get pissed at me otherwise. He's in boyscouts and his dad was the leader so I had to come. The most stupid crap ever.

Your logic is seriously handicapped when it comes to anything to do with gay people lol

I remember...

You go outside and actually do things.

Like camping, shooting stuff, going to places like Big Bear and Mammoth, challenges, the badass summer camps, all with fun people.

I had fun while I was in BS, but then I just dwindled off the meetings and stopped all together.
And you can't do this on your own?  You can't go to wilderness reserves on your own and have your own hiking experience provided you learn them on your own too with sufficient research and knowledge?
