Author Topic: [Discussion] Dogfight Server Builds, post-v21  (Read 2701 times)

Dogfight servers, in my opinion, can be some of the most fun, diverse, and team-building servers in the game. The first Blockland server I ever joined was the ScatteredSpace Dogfight (Wizard's) and I've been hooked since then. That server is gone now, because of the removal of terrain, but I don't want dogfight servers to become a thing of the past.

The challenge to hosting a dogfight in present-day Blockland lies in creating a large enough area for flying and maneuvering.

Please post your thoughts on how we can construct a suitable replacement for maps like this (and also for dogfight-over-land maps), and any building strategies that you would like to share.

The solution is better vehicle physics COUGH COUGH and the modular terrain bricks.

It's not that hard to make a dogfight if you think about it.
In those pictures there are brick-built ships. All that you would have to do is use ModTerrain to build the terrain islands.

^ Have to agree with this. Vehicles are glitchy with bricks. Even sometimes with ModTerrain.

you can't have unlimited terrain anymore. if you want borderless warfare like a dogfight, you're going to have to come up with a bad workaround ie:
islands (unlimited water)
space (unlimited space)
flat plane (unlimited slate)

you won't be able to recreate slopes or any kind of land-based terrain map well enough out of bricks where it could be used for things like jorgurs dogfight.

This is what I'm getting at. I'm trying to think of ways to have mountains and stuff like that.

Yeah, Its really annoying to see NO dogfight servers around anymore. I myself hosted a popular dogfight called "WWII Naval Dogfight" On the map Wake Island, Which Yes, I plan on reviving. Dogfight servers are great for any one: The pilot, the tactician, the soldier, the defender/ attacker, you name it. Its probably just right for you.

If we do a Dogfight, I suggest using the Terrain bricks to save brick count, making a central island, a few smaller ones, and the "Opposing Fleets/ Armies" on either side. One of my favorite parts of my first dogfight was when a minigame started, everyone on the server jumped in their plane, and met in the middle of the battle field at the same time.

 If you wanted to host a dogfight, you'd want a few noticeable islands/ structures at ground level so that it can be used as a marker for flight.

Yeah, Support x1000. Ill MAKE time to do this.

Isn't someone already making a huge server for such reason?

Remember it was never actually fully unlimited - It would go on so far and then you would end up back at the start. They were as if they were spheres or worlds, whilst everything else was a flat plane.

Hopefully we can see Stratofortress release his F-18 and mi-28 when he finishes  them (was  hosting earlier) They make for perfect air combat in these builds.

I've never actually saw someone employ tactics or even basic thought into these types of games. Usually whoever had the strongest weapons won by holding down their mouses.

Using the new terrain bricks? Do they actually reduce brickcount?

i thought about it, it's hard if you want to make it good.
