Any idea on how to reduce the cost of this? Even when buying each individually at their low points its still around $1000.

HD 7970 was chosen for high 1920x1200 game demands on a 24" monitor, and 900W was chosen because of dealing with capacitor aging down the computer's lifespan.

Get an AMD FX 8350
also don't get 16gb ram maybe?

16GB is meant for 8GB Minecraft usage (high mod usage + shaders etc), 4GB local server usage, 4GB OS usage including running browser communication programs and etc.

FX 8350 was considering it but need to find an AMD Mobo with UEFI BIOS and the PCI-E 1.0x slot behind the GPU slot. There are not many good AMD boards for the AM3+ socket that cost as little as some of the UEFI Intel boards.

1. Why do you need 8gb for minecraft, ffs I run shaders at 90fps with 3gbs in use. My os runs at about 6gb when I'm running all the applications I need. If you're going to look for a local server, don't use your computer for it, why would you do that. Literally, all I need is 8gb.
2. UEFI is garbage if you're going to install linux and there really isnt a reason for it.
3. I have an MSI 970A G46 and it is really good for what it does look at that if you're going to concider the 8350

No. 8GB is necessary for 4096x4096 textures, Sonic's Unbelievable shaders, and also running OptiFine extreme settings. It eats way more RAM than you think. Also keep in mind Im doing this on 1920x1200 resolutions.
No, I just prefer an aesthetic BIOS. I hate BIOS's that look like they're from 1997.
No. 970A does not have Military Class build quality. One little surge will kill the board.

How is the 8350? I want to get it when I get money for christmas
very, very nice.

overclocked to 5.2ghz and under max stress it doesn't get above 40C

it kicks any i7's ass
Except that intel cpus have much higher IPCs, consequently they destroy AMDs in single-threaded applications and use much less power. I'm not knocking AMD processors, but each set has it's own disadvantages and and advantages and neither kicks the other's ass definitively

ASUS M5A97 is all you need, you dont need something that is "sure resistant"

get the amd fx 8350 and less unnecessary hardware

No. We live in a 50 year old house, and I do not trust the power grid. Please quit telling me what I "don't need".
