Alright, so I have an idea that my motherboard crapped itself, but I want to get a second opinion on this.
Lets go back a couple of weeks. I have two power supply units. A 500W, and a 550W. The 550W is pretty low tier; rated bronze. I kept the 500W in case the 550W killed itself.
So a couple of weeks ago, the 550W makes this buzzing sound when I turn it on. Kind of like something was hitting the fan or something, but it was definitely coming from the PSU. I immediately switch the power off the PSU before my PC finishing booting up. I switch it back on and turn my PC back on, no buzz. A couple of days pass, normal start-ups, but then it happens again. That loving buzzing sound. I do the same as before. All is good.
The last time I had dusted out my PC was last spring, so I decided to dust it out again. Afterwards, no more buzzing.
But just a couple of days ago, I go to turn on my PC. The HDD light and Optical Drive light flash a bit like they usually do, the fans come on - then everything shuts down. PC restarts itself and tries again. It does this a couple of times, before I flip the switch on the PSU and restart it myself. Turns on fine. This happens again a couple of days later.
I kept shutting down and turning it back on to no avail. Turns out one of the RAM sticks crapped the bed. I remove one, it starts booting up. I swap the two sticks (A1 where A2 went, A2 where A1 went) and boot up. It boots up okay. I check Windows>Computer>Properties to see how much RAM I have. It says I only have 4GB installed.
That's bullstuff, I should have eight. Windows downloads some updates (I think Security Essentials crap), I install it, then shutdown so I can get rid of that stuff stick. Take stuff stick out, boot up, everything is starting up fine, so I shut down mid-boot so I can close up my case, fix cables, etc.
I go to start it back up - nothing. I mean abso-loving-lutely nothing. No fans. No lights. Nothing.
And I've tried everything. Changing the PSU, trying with the RAM again, taking out my MOBO's battery and letting it discharge for a bit etc. etc.
I recently tried starting it up with just the basics. MOBO, CPU, RAM, GPU, necessary PSU connectors - and nothing. It's as if I'm trying to start up my PC in a house with no electricity. I've concluded that either the RAM or PSU forgeted my MOBO, and that it's dead now.
What do you guys think? Any ideas?
