#1 cause of bluescreen. you got greedy and tried overclocking to much.
#2 cause. the ram is shotty. XD

I don't even know how to overclock. It may be set to do so already, but I doubt it.
It crashed on me again.
It seems to rotate through various errors, this time it was "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_ EQUAL"

What do you guys think about this machine? Good bang for the buck?

I basically just don't want to worry about lag on any game and I do a lot of video editing and don't want any problems with that aswell.

I don't think so. I think that really only applies if you don't know what you're doing.

I think the RAM part is pretty accurate though, it's usually the first thing to go and the first thing you should check in my opinion.

Bump for question

well no stuff. bluescreens are always when you don't know what you are doing.
they are all hardware issues, and are caused by aging hardware going crap, like memory,hd,power suppy is common.
or just by pushing the hardware way to hard.

Hell no.
Build your own. My rig cost $800 and I can run any game on max settings with a steady 60+ fps.

That's the thing, I have no idea what parts to use and what is compatible with what

I get so confused and I'm worried that it won't all fit when I order everything

just give us your target budget and we'll come up with a nice list of parts for you
as for the building part itself there are tons of guides you can find

hey guys, i've gotta get a friend a computer that can run source games and maybe some newer games on medium - low settings, on a really loving tight budget. $300

he might be able to go like $50 over at the worst, whats the best i can get for the super small budget?

Doesn't he have a computer already? He can use that 300 to buy himself a good GPU and overtime upgrade the rest.

A $300 build is probably going to get you a very low end PC, assuming you don't have spare hardware lying around like monitors and cases. But it's certainly possible to build a rig, just not what you'd call remotely close to a "gaming rig".

Wrong quote.

does this include windows?

My build went something like this

430 Watt PSU for $20
AMD FX-4130 $100
MSI Radeon HD 7770 $70
4 gigs of RAM for around $30
A cheap $25 case.
Motherboard combo (ASUS M5A78M-LS Plus) with my CPU, total was like $15 or something.
And a 320 gig HDD for around $40

These prices are approximate, but the total was around $307. If you can do something like this, it's probably going to be good for what he needs, I think.

Alright, so I have an idea that my motherboard crapped itself, but I want to get a second opinion on this.

Lets go back a couple of weeks. I have two power supply units. A 500W, and a 550W. The 550W is pretty low tier; rated bronze. I kept the 500W in case the 550W killed itself.

So a couple of weeks ago, the 550W makes this buzzing sound when I turn it on. Kind of like something was hitting the fan or something, but it was definitely coming from the PSU. I immediately switch the power off the PSU before my PC finishing booting up. I switch it back on and turn my PC back on, no buzz. A couple of days pass, normal start-ups, but then it happens again. That loving buzzing sound. I do the same as before. All is good.

The last time I had dusted out my PC was last spring, so I decided to dust it out again. Afterwards, no more buzzing.

But just a couple of days ago, I go to turn on my PC. The HDD light and Optical Drive light flash a bit like they usually do, the fans come on - then everything shuts down. PC restarts itself and tries again. It does this a couple of times, before I flip the switch on the PSU and restart it myself. Turns on fine. This happens again a couple of days later.

I kept shutting down and turning it back on to no avail. Turns out one of the RAM sticks crapped the bed. I remove one, it starts booting up. I swap the two sticks (A1 where A2 went, A2 where A1 went) and boot up. It boots up okay. I check Windows>Computer>Properties to see how much RAM I have. It says I only have 4GB installed.

That's bullstuff, I should have eight. Windows downloads some updates (I think Security Essentials crap), I install it, then shutdown so I can get rid of that stuff stick. Take stuff stick out, boot up, everything is starting up fine, so I shut down mid-boot so I can close up my case, fix cables, etc.

I go to start it back up - nothing. I mean abso-loving-lutely nothing. No fans. No lights. Nothing.

And I've tried everything. Changing the PSU, trying with the RAM again, taking out my MOBO's battery and letting it discharge for a bit etc. etc.

I recently tried starting it up with just the basics. MOBO, CPU, RAM, GPU, necessary PSU connectors - and nothing. It's as if I'm trying to start up my PC in a house with no electricity. I've concluded that either the RAM or PSU forgeted my MOBO, and that it's dead now.

What do you guys think? Any ideas?
