if you remove overclocking capability and downgrade the power supply to like 500w, you could fit in an i5 with a decent motherboard. it would improve performance greatly

Me and a friend have been working on a build for him to buy once he gets a job and we think we've got about as good as we can get for around $2000 without getting more than he'll actually need. I'm not too sure about my ability to pick parts however and I wanted to get a second opinion from other guys around my level of expertise.

The PC is going to be used for high-end gaming, modelling, rendering models, recording videos and editing said videos. Gaming is going to be the primary usage of this system but modelling and making videos aren't too far behind. This will be an upgrade from an old-ass iMac AiO monitor PC so he doesn't need the absolute best to be happy, I just want to make sure I made the right choices for the price.
The only parts that cannot be changed are the case, the two HDD's (except for models that are >= performance and reliability) and the peripherals, though you can remove the mouse as he already has it. He doesn't want to bother with the cost/capacity of SSD's either. The absolute price limit is $2k and he doesn't need any monitors to go with this system.

that build is actually pretty good. although you should go with the newest generation of wd black drives. along with just a single 4tb drive instead of 2 seperate 2tb ones

I went for two drives on the assumption that recording and editing video would likely wear out the drive quicker than playing games and such. It would be a shame if he lost everything just because recording videos caused the drive to die as opposed to only having the drive used for videos die. Also works the other way around, better to lose all his games and stuff than to lose all his games and all his videos, too.
I also chose 4x4GB of RAM based on information I heard a long time ago that the more sticks of RAM you have the more RAM intensive activities the system can do at once which would be useful as he'll be using the system for modelling and editing videos. I'm not sure how relevant this is any more, however.

i don't really think that recording videos can wear out drives, but thats just my assumption. regardless, you should get the newest gen wd black (goes by model wd#003fzex where # is amount of tb) instead of previous gen (goes by model wd #002something where # is tb)

about the ram, there is only a performance difference between 4x4gb and 2x8gb in systems which run ram in quad-channel mode, like the x79 chipset. the z87 runs in dual-channel so no difference. 2x8gb is a bit more expensive by like 10 bucks but its worth the upgrade capability in the future

Okay, thanks. I'll stick with 2 HDD's but I'll change it to the latest and I'll switch to a 2x8gb kit.

I didn't realize that I wasn't on the Canadian site. Any way my brother wants me to build him a new computer that's fast (so it needs an SSD, can run all the games he wants it to, and for it to last him a long time (so very up-gradable). Can I get parts that are around the same or better for a cheaper price and are the companies that make the parts I listed reliable? He only wants to spend around 1 grand. Also don't forget that my brother has no peripherals for a computer at all so do I have everything I need for a new computer? And does the MoBo have a built in sound card?

Amazon is having a sale on the 4570. If it wasn't, the price would be $200 or higher and the i5-3350P would be a much better choice of cpu
I'm only saying this for people who click on that link after the sale is over and think the 4570 is a good buy
