why would you have a magnet even close to your computer

why would you have a magnet even close to your computer
Because I use magnets for physics and one of them rolled off my desk, onto the drive.

I keep a good amount of random things near my computer. I don't see the issue.

Do you not see the problem

its a loving magnet

magnets+computers=bad time

Its not ok to keep random stuff on your desk that has the potential to royally forget over your computer.

Anything has the potential to forget up your computer. Magnets, coffee, soda, cables, screwdrivers, yourself, and anything big enough to block the airflow.

I also don't leave open drinks on my desk, magnets, cables, screwdrivers, or anything that blocks fan ports. You're both just stupid.

Lazy would be a better term. Who has the time to go to the kitchen when you're thirsty/hungry and who has the time to open the tool box, put the magnets and the screwdrivers in there, close it and put it away? And FYFI, headphones have magnets.

A sane human being.

No stuff, captain obvious. I don't stick headphones on my hard drive or on my case at all

have fun not going anywhere in life.

Considering that I study chemistry, I work at a lab, I live in a 3rd world country and I saw Breaking Bad, I'm pretty sure I'll do fine in life.

If you are implying that you can produce drugs because you have seen Breaking Bad then thats dumb.
If you are implying that you can produce drugs and have been inspired because you've seen Breaking Bad than that too is dumb.
If you are implying anything that involves the production of illegal drugs, then that is dumb.

Hey guys, so my computer just restarted itself twice, both times while it seemed to be lagging a bit (I was editing a movie both times, working with a couple gigs of video). Then it just restarted. I did have my computer on during a thunderstorm (and of course I didn't think to turn it off till the storm wasn't over us anymore), but my mobo had surge protection and it's plugged into a surge protector, I think.

Did I fry something, or did my computer just crash?

I am aware of what magnets do to computers.

Basically everything has the potential to forget up your computer, just some more than others.

On my desk I have: (not counting the obvious such as headphones) 3 knifes, a machete, 2 iPods, iPod charger, old student ID, flashdrive, electrical tape, pencils, pen, empty bottles/cans, house key, random change, various plastic parts, a CD, my shaving razor,a lighter ,and a load of coke can tabs.

Sometimes I have a full water bottle on the desk if my 'table' is full and can't hold it. If you're careful than you'll be fine regardless whats on your desk.
Unless its like, a ticking time bomb or something. In that case you're forgeted regardless.

run a mem test.

i say that a lot to people over random crash type errors. but when problems come while watching videos or playing games, bad ram is commonly an issue. (if you know its hardware related)

ok. I'll do that later.
