forget
my computer usually starts up with a single beep and a red light on the tower (along with the greenlight for a power button) and when I went to start it up there was no beep or sound coming off of it and there isn't anything displaying on the monitor
it's like it wakes up from sleep, I've powered it off completely
took out the ram and put it back in
reset the CMOS battery

If nothing displays then maybe your motherboard just fried or something, do the fans spin up or anything? Also try unplugging all things connected, like the mouse and keyboard, sometimes that can fix it

fans spin up and everything and I've disconnected everything, I've taken out the ram and started the computer and had the long beeps but then I went to insert 1gb it isn't beeping at all
everything seems to be connected, I don't know how this could suddenly happen, it was working fine with just cause 2 and I shut it down and then an hour later I went to start it back up and here we are

okay, the problem is that my ram is faulty and I need new ram, can I just order any ddr2 sticks and fit them or does it need to be more specific than that

I will provide the specifications of one of my previously working sticks

Depends on the motherboard. You'll have to look up the motherboard's specifications to see what it's maximum supported memory speed is.

isnt the standard dd2 like 800 pc26400

1GB STICK
DDR2-533U
MEABR421LA0106-07B1

2GB STICK
2GB DDR2 240-PIN 256MX64 PC2-6
RM25664AA800.16FH

this is the info i found on them, i need 1 2gb stick and 1 1gb stick because 3gb is all my mobo takes I think, i've tried 4 and it didn't work, it beeped as if there was no ram, ill get the specifications of my motherboard

my motherboard seems to be a Foxconn n15235 but there are many variations of it, this one has 2 ram slots and holds ddr2 memory and an lga775 socket, I have a feeling those two ram sticks I provided info of aren't too compatible, I get the feeling I'll need DDR2 667 (this is what the 1gb stick is) for both of them

If I got 2 2gb ram sticks with their speed being 667mhz, could I possibly upgrade to 4gb? keep in mind the 2gb one is 800mhz and the 1gb is 667mhz

Since I threw up into my old pc, I built a new one.

i7 4790k 4 core, 4.0ghz CPU
GTX 780 6gb edition (not installed yet)
Asus Maximus VII Hero MOBO
16gb G. Skill RipJaws 1600 RAM
Rosewill Lightning 1300w PSU
Cooler Master Hyper EVO 212 heatsink+fan w/ arctic silver 5 paste
Full Steel Thor v2 Case
Asus 24" monitor/mirror'd through hdmi hub onto 48" TV

Here's what the inside looks like for now until I add more stuff in: (too lazy to organize the wires)

But.. Doesnt that case have a wire management? I mean, it has rubber grommets and everything for you to put wires into the back. Seems kinda silly not to use them, especially in a  build like this.

Depends on the motherboard. You'll have to look up the motherboard's specifications to see what it's maximum supported memory speed is.
More than half the boards I've seen tend to under-clock the memory if it doesn't support a specific clock.

I forgot to order thermal compound with the other stuff
so, since the motherboard and RAM came today, and that was the last of it, I was gonna need thermal compound
I didn't find any at Best Buy, but I went to a local computer store, and asked the guy if they sold it, and he just went into the back and got one, then gave it to me. for free! so I'm probably gonna go there again some day

also I got a windows 8 key from G2A and it worked! which was nice. I'm sure they get keys from MSDN subscribers too. doesn't really make sense why it would be $20 otherwise

APPARENTLY
if you download the windows 8 install files on a computer with a 32-bit OS, it downloads the 32-bit windows 8 files. which is beyond ridiculous
and idk where to go from here. someone suggested downloading a 64-bit trial of windows 8 and running it on a virtual machine. but idk how to do that :I

If you use the developer console in whatever browser you use you can probably find your way to the websites file repository and forcibly download the 64-bit version. That is unless they actually prevent you from going there in the first place
