who are you referring to as "everyone", just for reference

LI isn't terrible, but it really isn't great

OP, a few subreddits, and a friend

2 posts and it's already sounding like I've made a huge mistake

I mean from what I saw the parts I chose seemed pretty darn good, I'm only spending a grand and it's already worlds better than the $800 laptop I've been living off for 4 years, it's not like I'm looking to run brand new games on max settings or anything

Oh nono, im sorry if i put it across that way. I guess i was more explaining on how I learned about building my computer. LI kinda helped me. I didnt go by its suggestions, but it helped me. It kinda did the push that got me more into computer hardware.

How good is this? This is $737 NZD without shipping + tax included, but it'll be cheap since I live in New Zealand, the processor was the cheapest I could find lol. All I really want to do is see if it can run Watch_Dogs or Assassins Creed Black Flag, some of the more newer games y'know, and see if it is an upgrade from my current laptop (Which I think it is)

Specs of laptop -
Intel i7 ~2.2Ghz 8CPU's
4 GB of DDR3  1333 MHz
Nvidia Geforce GT 525m

also I don't care about USB 3.0 headers etc, also do I need to buy anything if I am going to use ethernet?

forget FORGOT MONITOR ADD $175 ONTO IT.

Good luck with that. Unless they fixed it, watch dogs wont run worth crap with an AMD card.
Also keep in mind that most retailers that PCpart pickers chooses tend to have hidden shipping fees, so the cost may be higher.

On the ram, its better to get 2x4 gb and $112 seems a bit much for 1600 ram Forgot its in NZD
I dont know much about AMD processors, but I think your laptops CPU MIGHT be better, someone correct me on this.

I really cant help a lot on this. Sorry

best monitor for under 200 bucks.

Well, what did you actually get. The build is probably fine, just I don't like LI is all

AAGghga I wanna sleeve my PSU.

SO amazing looking.

Also so time consuming and can get expensive. :(

Pasting all the full part names or links would take me about an hour with this thing so if there are any discrepancies these are all on LI's "Excellent" tier:

GeForce GTX 770
intel i5 4430
Cooler Master 212 EVO HSF
Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H mobo
8GB Ballistix RAM
1TB Seagate Barracuda HDD
Seasonic S12II 620 power supply
Phanteks Enthoo Pro case
Lite-On Super AllWrite optical drive

The $30 spent on an aftermarket cpu cooler should probably have gone into a better cpu, considering you can't even overclock the 4430....
If there's still time, you should get the i5-4590 instead, or spend more in total and get an i5-4690k

I really don't plan on overclocking quite yet, will it still perform well enough? How much better is the 4590?

Sorry I'm sure I could find the answers to these questions elsewhere but I'd like some opinions too

If you live near a Micro Center you can pick up a 4690K for $20 more than the CPU you chose, and since you already have a good mobo and CPU cooler it's definitely a wise investment.

It's 0.5ghz faster iirc, which is something like 15% faster and it's guaranteed to help in games because that's singlethreaded performance. However, you still can't overclock if you choose to in the future. It's a better choice imo to get a 4690k (overclockable) without an aftermarket cooler vs getting an i5-4590 with one, those two options are about the same price.

Alright thanks a bunch you guys, I'll look into it and consider moving my order around/returning the CPU

I think I'm going to start from (almost) scratch in assembling my parts list. I'll throw out a new partpicker in a minute or two.

So has anyone done a custom sleeving job on their PSU?

I want to, cause my PSU has a rainbow of wires.
