its not a standoff, it has no mounting holes.

Mine was the same. Thats the middle standoff. Its used mostly as a guide. The other 8 standoffs will have screw holes.

i dont remember it poking through a hole when i put my mobo in

Well, either your mobo doesn't conform to the ATX standard or you're doing something wrong. Dumb question perhaps, but did you install standoffs in the 'empty' holes, i.e. the ones that aren't raised. Also, did you make sure the I/O shield was pushed all the way in?

its supports matx. it oddly came with one lone brass standoff. i assume you just screw your mobo into those trapezoid holes

Whats the link to your case and your mobo?

Dunno why you got a mATX mobo and a mid tower case, but yeah, you should be fine, as long as you put it in right. make sure the IP shield is snapped in and then put it in slightly at an angle, with the IO going in first. once its about lined up, flatten it out and make sure the IO is firmly in the holes. the stand offs should all be lined up except for the bottom 3. the center standoff is to keep it steady so that you can screw in the rest.

ok thanks. it just seemed like a weird design.

however heres what my specs are gonna be

pentium e6700
3 gb ram
730 gt

games i play: steamcommunity.com/id/elecr0

i hope i can play them

It should work, although I don't understand why you're using an eMachines motherboard.

I think we should all take a moment to appreciate the sheer genius that is the center guide post. God bless whatever futuristic son of a bitch graced us with this most noble invention.
