anyone using or have used Noctua fans?

i heard they are fantastic performance wise, and I don't give a damn about their color scheme, I want to know how they perform

they are the perfect combo of very effective + quiet.
and you pay for that luxury heavily :o

that's gonna take getting used to

I installed Windows 8.1 on a very old laptop with the following specs:
Intel Pentium 3 Xeon 700MHz
64MBs of RAM
a 30GB IDE HDD

It booted rather quickly but even moving the mouse takes a few minutes and it's producing enough heat to burn my hand, lol.

Gee, I sure wonder why.

I just wanted to share my experience. I didn't intend on installing it hoping it would word, lol.

Well, it DID work (sort of), so there's that. I'm surprised you even got Windows to install, since newer versions have a system requirements check that prevents you from installing the OS if your computer is too slow. Did you use some kind of workaround, or did MS remove that check from Windows 8?

I'm guessing MS removed that check. It installed without a problem.

I bought myself a Turtle Beach Impact 600 mechanical keyboard for pretty cheap because I've been wanting a mechanical keyboard for a while now.

Few thing right off the bat that bother me.

  • It's tilted upwards. Like 20 degrees. Why would anyone even need the additional supports at the back. My old membrane was level with the desk and I loved it. My wrists are already hurting so totally need to get an wrist rest pad thing soon. Crap.
  • I know it's a mechanical keyboard and it's supposed to be clacky but damn, it's like three times clackier than I though it would be. Sorry roommate. I hope the walls muffle at least some of it. (Cherry MX Brown by the way.)
  • Modifier keys (Tab, Numlock, etc) LEDs are not affected by the LED brightness adjustment. Same goes for the N-key rollover button that has a massive god damn square of light. No N-key rollover for me then. (Not that I'd need it.)
  • Who in their right mind needs two Win keys? I've never used it.
  • CLACK CLACK CLACK MOTHERforgetER. I need to learn to not bottom out the keys all the time.

On the positive side, it's nice. Smoother typing and at least it feel like I'm typing marginally faster. The (red) LED lights are neat (and holy stuff you can make the so bright the keys look like coals, feels so loving scifi) and definitely helps in my dark room since I do occasionally glance at the keyboard. Probably never going to use the macros but it's cool to have the option. The thing is also god damn heavy. The switches are pretty smooth, not much pressure needed and I can just barely feel the actuation point.

I considered the QPAD MK-50 but look at that loving branding. That would have bothered me to no end. Turtle Beach has "IMPACT" with tiny tiny text on the spacebar and "600" in the front face of the spacebar. Although both have LEDs.

I probably would have gone with a Cooler Master if their font wasn't loving stupid.

how much did you get it for

Why did you get a mechanical keyboard if you don't like clicking noises?

Some people just want the tactile feedback but not the annoying sounds.

Plus arent browns supposed to be quiet but with the feedback and blues are the clicky ones with the feedback?

I can't stand typing without some sort of clicking and/or feedback from the keyboard. I prefer my mechanical keyboard.

this
i couldn't live without my blues
i'm never going tenkeyless again tho
i realized how much i rely on the numpad for extra stuff like garry's mod and other games i can't really think of at the moment

my next mech. keyboard will be a corsair k95
not the rgb variant tho, too much
