The idea is to rule out whether or not the problem is one of the drives. See if it works with the USB, if it does use the process of elimination to find the problematic drive.

Alright, going to try that.

No drives connected: -In progress-

Update: 512MB RAM stick burnt. Funny colors on the screen, lol. I now have 768MBs of RAM. :C

Ouch.

I'm considering using the Corsair AIR 540 as my next case, because this thing is just badass.

is the fractal r5 out?

If booting off of removable media is failing then it sounds like a hardware issue unrelated to your current drives. However, I have experience that leads me to believe that Windows can do some really weird things when a drive isn't working correctly. Try the bootable USB again, but disconnect all the other drives beforehand.

I can confirm that an improperly working drive will make Windows behave very strangely.

So how hard is it to build my own badass gaming rig? I don't know anything about building or repairing PCs, my knowledge ends pretty abruptly beyond anything stated on dxdiag. My dad advised me to go to a computer shop in town and see what they can get me. Now that I have money rolling in, I want to invest it in a fun toy. I want a high end gaming machine that can run pretty much any game on highest settings, namely games like Fallout or Skyrim or GTA smoothly, since I mainly play less demanding Steam games these days. I know that if I build my own I can get less for more but I have no idea where to start.

For starters, you have to say "How much do I want to invest on this thing?". Also, part selection (All parts MUST be compatible with each other.). These two areas are the hardest parts of building a PC, in my opinion. Luckily, tools like PCPartPicker exist for this reason exactly.

After you have that sorted out, assembly isn't as hard as people think it is (The only tool you will really need is a screwdriver, the rest just plugs into the motherboard.). Just make sure to discharge static electricity (wearing an anti-static wristband is advised, if not required.), and KEEP THE HARD DRIVE AWAY FROM ANYTHING MAGNETIC.

Like what if I just bought parts to a build someone else put together and then lut it together myself? Would that make sense?
