Author Topic: How do I know who to promote to admin?  (Read 1527 times)

Just because they're your friends doesn't mean they're good administrators.

Sorry, I took for granted that people don't have friends who are utter fools.

I admin my friends as I know they are intellectual people who know how to run a server.. or else I wouldn't been friends with them in the first place. Thus admining friends is the ultimate solution for me. However, I wouldn't host a server without keeping an eye on it myself.. therefore I don't even have to bother about admining people.

do a really easy admin app and anybody who capitalizes it gets admin

whenever I host I just make my friends the admins
but I also only host for the purpose of forgetin around with friends so

First off, don't base it off dramas, past conflicts with other people have no connection to their ability to administrate properly on your server. Determine who to choose based on your level of trust with an individual, someone who has been dedicated to the server and has displayed a mature skill set to moderate it well.

option 1: when you want to do other stuff, stay in-game with your sound on so people can get your attention with /alarm
option 2: host for a while normally, and when you go afk pick the person you trust the most and make them mod/admin/whatever
option 3: pick people you know to be admin

Annoying sound relays are the way to go.

You can have a good administrators without giving anyone admin, moderator, rights, etc.
An administrator can basically answer questions, help players, report problems, and find issues without getting an A next to their name in the player list. Administrator is more of a title than a responsibility. The best test is to see who can do admin tasks best without actually having admin on the server.

Someone who you trust for a long time

Frankly, I see it like this. If whatever you're hosting is good, people will start coming forward as 'regulars.' These regulars will soon be more knowledgeable than others, and they are ideal choices for promotion to admin. Until you get these people on your server, you've got a couple of options. You can just have friends moderate it, but that depends on who your friends are. I personally don't mind if people think my admins are stuffty, so I admin my friends anyway. Your could also just shut down the server when you leave until these regulars start to separate out. Or you could just leave it up and hope nobody forgets it up. No server will have admins present 100% of the time, so you want your server to be at least enough quality to stand 6 hours or more without an admin present. The best servers are ones that never require a moderator.

When you want to admin someone you need to understand that they have an entirely different way they look at things than you. You want someone that not only enforces the rules, but also follows them as well.

I, or anyone else, can't tell you who to admin. Personally it's your opinion on who you see fit to manage your server.
