Author Topic: Sony trying to ban used games.  (Read 5532 times)

Well I have the wifi version, never thought of returning my vita yet.
I'n my exact words I was really excited for the Vita at first, the being able to play online anywhere and stuff, I couldn't wait, but then I heard a rumor that its only ISP was going to be AT&T, I didn't believe it so I went and I got myself a vita with 3G, the my joy instantly turned to sadness as no matter what you could only use AT&T as an ISP.

I even looked for videos on ways to change it but I couldn't find anything, and when I did find something, most of the ways to do it had some bad side effect.

Woops, let me fix that.

You guys are just so picky, why pay 50 dollars a month for 3g anyways?

No one buys physical copies of PC games anymore.

Dont care dont post.

Lord Tony:

We might aswell ban the right to resell cars/vehicles/houses because the people who made them wont get money out of the resale.
You can only buy a new house. Or a new car for full price. Imagine how that sounds now.

When you buy something, it is YOURS unless the company deems it theirs and they are just letting you use it.

You have the right to resell anything you own. Besides, they cant just up and update the pre existing consoles even if it does pass. So any games made up to that point, would be still able to be resold.

It would shut down game rental services.

Haaaaannnnnggg on guys....

All they did was patent that. They haven't put any of the patents in place, and I doubt they will. It's entirely possible they patented anti-used-game drm so companies like Microsoft couldn't use them. People really enjoy jumping the gun.

On the topic of /buying/ used games: I believe the entire "Licensing" thing they have going with games is complete bullstuff. When you buy a game, you agree to /no/ legally binding contract, and it is /your/ property. I have no issue with used game sales, but I think developers do deserve to at least make some money on these sales, and hence I've always been a large proponent of the "one-multiplayer-account-per-game" idea. I think people should have a right to the game offline, but when it comes to playing online, on either p2p networks, or company servers, everyone should have to pay their share.

I'm pretty sure they actually are just selling you a license to use their software.

I actually believe Sony might not actually heavily implement this. Just a gut feeling. Don't a lot of games on PC and some consoles have one use serial codes anyways (at least for online and stuff)?
