Author Topic: Valve doesn't like the number 3...  (Read 1167 times)

Title says it all.

They won't make Left 4 Dead 3, Team Fortress 3, Half-life 3, or Portal 3.
FFS Valve, Just make everyone happy and make it!

I hate people who shout "old" as much as the next guy but jesus dude you're pushing it.

I'm not pushing it, It's the truth.

half-life 3 will never live up to the hype, just like duke nukem forever, so its better if they didnt make it than having fanboys whine about it not being as good as the rest

Yes they can, stop being dumb, also why are you asking for portal 3 when portal 2 hasn't even been out for 2 years yet?

wtf when is dota 3 comin out amitirte?

Most Valve games have been pretty mediocre so far anyway, IMO.

I personally don't see how much innovation they can get with a Left4Dead 3.
Maybe a couple new zombie types?
L4D2 is exceedingly similar to L4D1 (Which isn't a bad thing entirely).
I'd rather they just made new maps for L4D2. Personally, I don't have much want for a L4D3, and I could only guess that there isn't that much demand.

Team Fortress doesn't really require a new game.
The game is pretty much what you want it to be at the moment.
And creating it wouldn't make them money. They use TF2 as a f2p game now in order to make money selling in-game items, and from other game companies who release special promo TF2 items for pre-ordering their own games.
If you just made a new TF3 game (and here too, I don't see much demand, nor innovation, since everyone will just want what they have now), then most people aren't going to purchase it while they can still play TF2.

Portal 3 would be nice to see, but I wouldn't mind not seeing it, either.
They left the story of Portal 2 nicely rounded off.
They could add some new features and things, sure, but is there the push for this also?
New puzzles released for Portal 2 would likely suffice for any demand.
And Valve take some time between game releases. It's not been drastically long since the release of Portal 2.

Half Life 3 is essentially the only valid argument here. They have left the game series on a big cliff hanger, and presumably they have done work on making a sequel, and possibly still are.
Perhaps they're making it as good as they possibly can.
There's certainly no denying that in the time taken so far, technology has improved to such a degree that they might have trouble keeping their work up to date. It wouldn't do any good to release it when it's got the same quality as games that have passed.

I hope that Half Life 3 is finished and whatnot. I'm sure it will be. The demand for it is so intense that even if it were absolute tripe, everyone would rush out to buy it anyway.
But every time someone complains about it not coming out soon enough, it ends up just adding more and more anticipation for it. Which is nice, but at the same time, it means that we want more and more from it, lest we're disappointed.
I don't want Valve to rush to release it and it be shabby, but I don't want them to take forever and it seemingly never be completed.
I can only stick to the middle ground. Hope they take the time they need, with the plan to release it, and in the mean-time, I just forget about it. That way it'll be a nice surprise in the end.

Why would they make a new Team Fortress when Team Fortress 2 is going so strong with user made maps, weapons, items, economy, and big updates?

Why would they make a new Portal when Portal 2 is also go so strong with the user submitted chambers?

There isn't much hope for a new Left 4 Dead because Louis, Francis and Zoey are living on an island far from the zombified society, and if they wanted to continue with Coach, Ellis, Nick and Rochelle, they can easily make it DLC, i don't think the possibilities of new survivors is very likely, especially any time soon

They ARE working on the next Half Life, you just gotta stop being a pessimist and be patient, would you want a Half Life that's rushed, broken, possibly unfinished?

And it's not like Valve HASN'T used the number 3, they've used it quite a few times, for example, the level 3 buildings in Team Fortress 2 and the third volume of the Portal 2 soundtrack

The next Half Life may not live up to it's hype, but you know what? I say that's the community's fault, they're probably expecting some super, hyper-realistic, amazing, computer-exploding graphics with amazing gameplay and a story that really drags you into it as if you were really there

But in reality, it's just another Half Life game, you go around, beating things to death with a crowbar and using all these different guns and vehicles to complete objectives

I'd like to know, how much of a difference are guys expecting? Of course it'll be a new story, some new characters and enemies, maybe some new weapons and vehicles, it sounds nice and all, but nothing really out of the ordinary

I'm not pushing it, It's the truth.
It's not the truth it's stupid meme garbage.

If Half Life 3 were to be released, I wonder if people would be disappointed if it ended leading on to a sequel (HL3:Ep1/HL4, etc..) or if they wouldn't mind.

p. sure the OP is just trying too hard to be funny and/or make a valid point

Half-life 3 would be the start of a new story. They need to finish to finish the half-life 2 story with ep3. Also the reason why they are so slow is that Gabe said they are trying to avoid disappointing the fans with a terrible ending. They should make expansions like Opposing Force 2 and Blue shift 2 to keep the fans occupied or something.

Valve knows half life 3 is a train wreck waiting to happen, plus they have other focuses.

I like the series as much as the next guy, but half life 3 is being delayed and or not released because of the fans, not because of valve.
