Valve provides good customer service and decent prdoucts. They know if that if they sell a good product, listen to feed back from their fans, provide decent customer support then they are going to have people coming back to buy from them.
The reason EA is more well known is that they can afford to throw Battlefield 3 posters everywhere, where as Valve can't afford to put a Half-life poster with Gordan Freeman on it. EA Game's disregards whether their products receive good or bad reviews, as long as money comes in they will be happy. So they can sell million of copies of Dubstep Bloom Zombie shooter Five and they don't care that people liked or hated the game. If they want to make more money will cut-off core features and sell them back in a dlc. So what if you can't get Dubstep Overhyped Zombie Shooter Five to work on your system? Have fun calling tech support based out in India. Good luck paying for a long distance call trying to get your game to work when the guy qualified fix it barely speaks english.
