Is it a bad idea to turn network discovery on, and set it as a "home" connection in a place where don't technically recognize all the other computers? because that's totally working.

As long as you can trust the other students who connect to that.

You had it set to "Public" before? Yeah, that would tend to block communications..

If you don't want to set the network type to "Home", you can always set it to "Work".

If you don't want to set the network type to "Home", you can always set it to "Work".
In the description, the only change is "workplace" instead of "home." What's the difference?

I'm not really sure. I think it just disables the Homegroup feature while you're on a Work network.

Anyway, did changing that fix your problem?
