Author Topic: Graphic Card! Need suggestions  (Read 3775 times)

I hate to stuff on your parade but that e-300 CPU is total rubbish.

A graphics card isn't your concern. From the sound of it, you'll be wanting a whole new computer for $700.

EDIT: Wait a second, isn't that a laptop CPU?

Not to fear, $700 is enough to get a pretty good PC! Do you only play Blockland on PC or do you play other games or plan to other games on your PC?

Here are a list of parts from Newegg.com

Motherboard: ASRock H77M LGA 115 $70
Processor: Intel core i3 3200 Ivy Bridge (3.3ghz --pretty fast) $120
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1333mhz GSkill $39
Case: NZXT Source 210 $39
DVD Drive: ASUS 24x DVD Drive $19
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB SATA 3 7200rpm $79
PSU: CX430w 430W $45
Graphics Card: HIS AMD 7770 $134
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium OEM $99

Total: $659.91 (without tax, put in your zip code to see how much it is with tax, it will probably be around $30 or so)

You got yourself a nice gaming PC right there! You can upgrade your ram to 16GB, you can also upgrade your processor to even an i7 later.

I only play blockland on my computer, Can a graphic card still make it so that I can use shaders to max?

To be frankly honest, you aren't even missing much from shaders. Shaders at night suck and there isn't much of a difference between medium and high. The improved fps is what I feel is more useful than shaders tbh. But that's my opinion. Your new drivers can be used for something more powerful than BL obviously.

If you only play Blockland then I honestly wouldn't spend more than $200 on a graphics card for you. I would run shaders with 4x AA on Max and I could visit any server without lagging. The AMD 7770 is better than the GTX 550ti so I would say you will be good to go. I suggest building a new PC since your processor is too old and your power supply probably won't give out enough power for your card.

The specs I listed you are good quality parts and will be able to run Shaders and probably any other game you throw it, even Far Cry 3.

Shaders at night look like stuff? You kiddin me? Are you saying that night time without shaders look or even better? Nighttime with shaders off just seems like every brick lost its color, all the bricks turn black and then you have textures that are glowing in the dark on top of that. U cray cray?

You can upgrade your ram to 16GB

Pointless upgrade.
He obviously isn't the best with computers, don't advise him into doing things that he has no need for otherwise he'll go on to perpetuate false knowlege, 8GB of RAM is all you'll need for quite a long time

I'd only recommend the 16GB upgrade if you plan on doing image and video editing, or just generally want minor (but still faster) improvement in general response from software. Tok is right though, this guy won't need it.

My mitx mobo supports at max 16GB, I personally just filled it up. I couldn't recommend it though lol.

I'm talking about how the computer is future proofed. This PC will last him a long while and has many upgrade paths unlike the one he's stuck with now.

I doubt we'll be needing more than 8GB anywhere in the next 3+ years at least, I only have 8GB of RAM because some STALKER mods I play need it for stability, if it wasn't for that I'd only have 4GB of ram, maybe 6 at most

Well depends what you do, if someone who does things like renders video and uses maya, adobe premiere pro right off the bat when exporting uses 3GB of ram so 4gb would be a nono for that person 6gb is good but then having 6 usually gives you an uneven pair in your memory slots, when you go to upgrade later in the future to have maybe 8gb or even 16, depending on how many slots you have you will have to remove a stick, maybe even both to upgrade. It's sort of wasting sticks, ur just going to have them somewhere in a box. That's why I gave him 1 stick of 8GB, upgrading will be easier, he just needs to buy another stick and bam done, he won't have to worry about storing extra sticks in a safe place.

Upgrading RAM speed with 8GB+ > Upgrading ram quantity for 8GB+
