Author Topic: Do you think internet friends count as "real" friends?  (Read 6102 times)

you're getting so defensive because what I am saying directly threatens the validity of what I assume is the majority of most of your friendships.  I'm not trying to insult anyone here, I'm just giving my opinion.

The way I see it, I could never become friends with someone over the internet in the same way that I have become friends with my closest friends; kids I have known since I was 5, who I've been in classes with and who I hang out with each and every weekend.
All my friends i knew since i was young were either held back, they moved, or they went to a tech school.

I wasn't getting defensive at all, lol. I probably have more friends in person, I just like long-distance ones more.

The way I see it, that's stupid.

EDIT: Now I might be. :I
But more because you're annoying than because I feel like you've invalidated any of my beliefs.

sorry to hear that

lol ok.  i view my friends and I as this group of people who are all for one another; if you forget with one of us you've forgeted with all of us yada yada all that kind of stuff.  that's really not something you can get over the internet.

I plan to meet some of my internet friends one day.

Definitely. I've talked with one monday every day for three years now, and plan on meeting up with him irl once I can drive.

I have a lot of internet friends but they aren't nearly as close to me as my friends IRL

my RL friends are weird, internet friends from what I can see are fun to be with

I definitely think there is a connection made in having real, person to person interaction.  However, I don't think this connection is absolutely needed in a healthy friendship.

I think in order to be tight with someone you have to have that connection though, so I would consider most people I meet online either friends or acquaintances.
You were never my friend anyways
Only a forgetbuddy.

Elevator shaft.

I think you have to meet with a person face to face before you can count them as a real friend. It doesn't matter what else happens, you can't really be friends without knowing them in real life.

aw :)))

The internet is full of interesting and unique people.
Real life is filled with boring-ass tryhards attempting to follow the current social norm because they think being weird is bad.

We obviously have a clear winner here

Pretty much sums up my first thought.

I consider internet friends as real friends. It would be awesome to meet some of you in person, I do admit. Though it would probably be awkward as hell. Some Steam friends, sure it'd be awesome to meet them. Some of my Steam friends are closer than my IRL friends to be honest.

I have friends for everything.
Real life.
Snowboarding.
Then online.
I dont count them as real friends though, there more of just people you know.

i have like 3 or 4 close friends irl

and then the rest of my friends are Internet friends, and I value them just as much as any other friend.
