It pains me to know that the suggestion for this thread came from a rather odd place.

It is a very valid reason, though.

This is the stufftiest megathread OP ever.
Orbits are used with gravity, you're falling forever around a planet, asteroid, or star.
-picture of Earth, not space-
Many space agency's have been orbiting planet Earth for years, with satellites in orbit, space stations, etc. With orbiting your apoapsis is the farthest away from the object you're orbiting, perigee is the lowest point. apogee is the highest point.
Unlike some video games, to get to the moon you don't just point at it... I mean, you could, but you would need to go very fast, and its not very efficient. I don't feel like explaining this since none of us have the money to even make a spaceship so i'm just going to leave this here.[/center]
90% of this thread has nothing to do with space.

This is the stufftiest megathread OP I have ever seen. 90% of this thread has nothing to do with space.

Its wip and i'm tired as forget.
Also, Earth is a part of space, the picture was taken from Apollo 17.

If we're associating objects *in* space with space in general, then Tom Selleck is also space.

Here's another picture to include in the OP:

I'm not understanding you right now.
We're talking about planets,gravity,galaxys,moons, etc.
Need a picture?

I'm just saying, a picture of Earth is sorta a stuffty choice for a first picture on a space megathread.

Well what would you rather have a picture of?

Well what would you rather have a picture of?
The galaxy-looking thing he posted afterwards.

No reason to get pissed at a picture, though. Its not going to change someones life.

Some better pictures for the OP:

"SN 1006 was a supernova, widely seen on Earth beginning in the year 1006; Earth was about 7,200 light years away from the supernova. It was the brightest apparent magnitude stellar event in recorded history, reaching an estimated −7.5 visual magnitude. First appearing in the constellation of Lupus between April 30 and May 1 of that year"

The SN 1006:

It was as bright as 1/4 the light from the moon
