Windows vista to windows 8

Dads forcing me to update, I have everything backed up, but I've heard mixed reviews. Way I see it, I'm stuck with it, so whatevs, but does anyone have any good tips? Tomorrow will be my firs day with it, and no I don't wanna just go look up a YouTube intro movie into how to use windows 8.

It seems to me most of the extreme hate is due to people bandwagoning.

Although I've heard of some compatibility issues and I'm not a big fan of the whole tablet interface and start button removal.

the start menu wasn't removed, it was just changed.

I've tried 8 and didn't like it much at all, not joining the wagon I just don't like it much. XP or 7 are my preferred/favorite windows.
