Author Topic: Windows vista to windows 8  (Read 1711 times)

I think Windows 8 is actually one of Microsoft's best. It doesn't remove functionality, it just temporarily hides it. A different start menu is no reason to hate. It works fine with everything I throw at it, and it starts much up faster to boot. I suppose if you hate one GUI aspect upgrade, stay with 7 (which is basically W8 sans cool start menu and shiny apps).

Honestly, this is worse than the Internet Explorer bandwagoning...

microsoft and valve aren't really in the same category of software production.

Anyway, I have windows 8 and I really like it. I am totally used to it now and its pretty awesome.

Well it's better than Vista in any case.

I would be super interested in seeing valve make an OS. That would be pretty cool probably. I wouldn't be surprised if they're working on one especially since gaben hates windows 8 or something.

It would be called steam os and have only one purpose:

Play games.

as soon as a majority of things are fully compatible with Linux, i'm making a permanent swap over to Ubuntu and backing up all my stuff.
i might make a perma swap to kubuntu or lubuntu, depending on which is better on when/if i permaswap.

windows 8 is pretty good, some compatibility issues but ive sorted all that stuff out relatively easily. i use windows 8 myself and it's wonderful in my opinion. its basically windows 7 but with a hub so quit whining guys

I heard they rewrote the kernel for windows 8 entirely.

They have also gotten a lot better at automatically finding drivers. XP finds 0. 7 finds nearly all. I would imagine 8 is even better.

windows 7 finds absolutely loving nothing.
i'm speaking this from experience.

if it's still the NT stuff it's not better, nt is too far into the stuff zone.

I have used 7, it finds all of the drivers I look for. Maybe you just use weird parts.

You must have a really stuffty home life.

I've worked with Windows 8.

It's not awful. It's just different.

A bit too different though. Doesn't feel like Windows anymore, if that makes sense.

It would have been nice if they added an "I don't use a tablet please don't make me use this giant tile garbage" option.
