Oh god, this would be tremendously difficult to use, I don't think I'd be able to master it.

People could build a game using the regular setup; and play servers (TDM's and the like) with a controller.

Same here, I would love to use a controller for TDM's.

I recommend you set up an alternate gui interface to make the controller work.  For example, holding down some button brings up a wheel that contains your bricks or tools so that they are easier to select with a joystick.

That made no since you made your own layout so are you calling your own a cluster?
