Author Topic: Why are Civil war games so widely ignored by game makers?  (Read 2435 times)

Seriously, only Civil war game i know of is Mount and blade : Napoleonic wars

I think Civil war games would be reallllyy fun. Especially cause your using Guns and Swords. And of course if people actually made it history accurate.

As someone who's actually studying to enter the game industry I can only think of two reasons.

One; as far as historical accuracy goes it would not be fun to play as the south. Period. Economic turmoil, slave revolt, and that little squabble with the north would ruin appeal for an entire faction of the game.

Two; political correctedness. People in the industry treat race issues like plutonium, that stuff is radioactive.

I agree with comr4de. Even if it was made all the kids will still be playing the 30th iteration of COD anyways, so it wouldn't make any money. Nobody would be willing to take the risk.

What annoys me is the lack of genre there is in games. I mean there is about ~50 copies of games like Call of duty, thouuusands of sci - fi fps and hundreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeedssssssssss of thousands of games that don't go past WW1. All of them are WW1 and up in time era.

A few games that are medievalish:

Chivalry : Medieval warfare

Mount and blade series

By Civil War, do you mean the American Civil War?

Because, although I haven't played loads of Napoleonic Wars, as far as I am aware, it does not cover the American Civil War.
It covers the Napoleonic Wars, as the title kind of suggest.
It's Britain versus France. With Russia and Germany and possibly a couple others too, iirc.

Judging by your previous post you're asking for more medieval fighting games, than civil war games?

But I do agree. The Mount & Blade series is brilliant, and I can't wait for the next instalment, Bannerlords. But sadly there aren't many other games I can think of, off the top of my head, that quite meet the same genre.
Would love it if there were more.
Medieval Total War, and that were in the right genre, but I didn't like that level of RTS.

Well I'm looking for a Medieval / Civil War era. Mount and blade With fire and sword is pretttttyyy bad. It doesn't make you feel excited at all, it made me feel like I was playing depression rp thing, its sooo bland too.

Anyways, I just want to mix like Guns (not automatic but you know civil war type guns) and swords together.

Because civil wars are, honestly, terrible terrible events

screw historical accuracy i wanna wear powered exoskeletons and shoot a gatling gun from my fist

lol

Hell yeah!

Sadly, if they did have an arm mounted gatling gun, it wouldn't look anything like this

how fun could they be.
line up and shoot straight. over and over and over.

there is no hero or impulsive action like running around on your own all cod style

I agree with Comr4de and Bisjac and the other people who agreed with them. It would be too difficult to sell.

Also- I would love to see more Civil War games, but it would probably be better if it was an Age of Empires style game.

it wouldn't be any fun at all lol

I heard that the History channel had a decent FPS set during the Civil war, but apparently it has some compatibility issues on modern hardware.
