I'm probably the only one but I really dread how literally everyone compares/links the game to Terraria.
but hey the artstyles are similar and theyre block games and SHUT UP THIS IS WHERE THE SIMILARITIES STOP.

The Starbound team: Tiyuri, Kyren, OmnipotentEntity, Bartwe, Rho, GeorgeV and Fakename.
The Terraria team: Tiyuri, Redigit and Blue.
Tiy is an artist, he never coded for Terraria, him being present is LITERALLY the only similarity between the games.

Spiritual successor? No stuff. Direct sequel? forget no. Starbound takes place in the universe. Terraria takes place in a flat plane.
A successor is not a sequel. Repeat after me:
