Considering that most of Starbound's playerbase is probably still in High school or earlier, They probably will release in June so that there isn't school to interfere with playing the game.

I believe no-one has stated anything about the duration of the pre-order, I guess it ends when beta arrives,
could be wrong.

Ends when Starbound is out of Beta and the full version is released

this. i don't think they'd release the beta right now because everybody has a lot of work to do. the summer vacation period is usually the best to release games because everybody will have the free time to play them.
