when me and my friends installed this with our mods it just crashed our game.

It would be useful to know what mods you guys run with.
Quite a few mods have incompatibilities with others and some even have special patches for them.

When i click Join Server it says "no connection string given"

Its not the problem with the server itself.
It happens when I click the "join server" button when going to the multiplayer tab.

I guess its something with me personally so I'll search the forums

I didn't realize how bad things were on the development end until some people were talking about it elsewhere a few days ago and I was directed to /sbg/ for more information

So exactly what happened? I'm not too in-the-know here, so who's Omni? Why did he ban himself?

What I am always afraid of when I see an early-access game is what will happen after the game is done. The thing I'm afraid of is that when you can pre-order beta keys, a large part of the people who are interested in it will buy one, and then when the beta comes out, a few more people will buy it. When the game is done "for real", pretty much everyone who was interested in it will have the game already and they'll make no money.
