Author Topic: Captial punishment, good or bad?  (Read 13565 times)

Heres a statement to change all of you people who strongly resist punishment by death: Think about if someone murdered your family, raped you and destroyed your house. Would you want them to be killed or just left in a black room and you're not even sure if he is still there and not out there somewhere lurking and trying to hunt you down. Of course, the power of government to remove dangerous people from society is pretty forgeted up, but when other people fear for these people its not really worth it to let the dangerous feared person to live on. Its like trying to play Morrowind when everyone hates you. You'd rather just make a new character and delete your older one.
actually get good weapons and kill everyone.

I do not have a clear opinion on a death sentence, but I think it is alright as long as it is not a very cruel way of killing the victim.

I do think, however, prisoners in for a life sentence or on death row should have the option to be killed if they desire. I think that should be an option if you are sitting in a prison for the rest of your life.

It depends of the severity of the crime for me

I personally think the person (If the crime is worthy of capital punishment) should just live in prison the rest of their life to think about what they have done. Imagine being someone old enough to be a grand father, all a lone and stuff, with no family and the like. And them knowing that they'd never get to do stuff like drive a car or stuff we take for granted today. Can you add that option to the poll? Life Sentence, that is.

well yeah you aren't going to give someone the death penalty for stealing a candycane

lethal injection and the electric chair (when it works right) are the most humane methods feasible with modern technology

which is why it's arguably better to put them to death, gets rid of someone who could potentially kill another prisoner and clears up space and money

Why not offer people who have a life sentence a choice between that or a lethal injection?
This was my idea also.

The death penalty is inhumane and immoral.

I can see both sides of this argument.

On one hand, if a man just murdered your entire family and the cat, you'll want them dead. It's part of human society. We're a naturally warlike species. And if someone did this murdering in cold blood, yeah, they might be a deranged psychopath (by definition, not just a crazy murderer) and unfit to be a part of society.

Then again, being a psychopath doesn't mean that you want to kill people. some psychologists argue that psychopathy is just the effect of a brain that works in a far different way to the general public, and if they become criminals or not depends on their upbringing.

So, back to the other argument, wishing someone dead after they killed someone you know is natural, but everyone knows Hammurabi's Code, and this reaction is a blinding of logic. Punishment usually means that you are teaching somebody else a lesson, be it the criminal, or other criminals seeing the public hanging in ye oulde times, they won't want to touch a weapon or stolen goods for a while after. However, some people don't take these cues, and continue with their practice.

However, a life sentence could be worse than a lethal injection, because you'd live in poor conditions, surrounded by other criminals (who might be in for worse than you are), and they might kill you with sharpened spoons. Or you'd die of old age and organ failure, if you're lucky.

So, what would be less painful: Death by spoon, or death by fast-acting toxin?

Most of you are acting like they do not get trials.

because trials have never been wrong, right?

I would support capital punishment if I could trust the court system to get it right.

As of now, the rate of overturned capital punishment cases stands at two thirds.

Capital punishment and holding people on death row is a huge drain on the economy.

Instead of lethal injection I'd rather see head chopping become a practice again.

I have also thought about this. I have always contemplated requiring hard labor over other methods purely for minimizing fiscal loss, but I have not seen any study to verify this.

I believe in an eye for an eye. I think its fair for these kind of crimes. But if something happens that's an accident, Well lets not worry about minor details.

easily resolvable by cutting the waiting time from 20 years to 2 years

also getting rid of luxuries and making prisons prisons instead of hotels would be good too
