Author Topic: Captial punishment, good or bad?  (Read 13607 times)

I don't believe the government has the right to decide that they have the power to take someone's life. What if the evidence against someone is wrong? Or forged? Or mistreated or altered or sketchy? It basically means the government can kill anyone they want as long as they can convince a jury that he's a murderer. News flash: our government hasn't exactly been trustworthy. I wouldn't put it past them to forge or alter evidence to make someone they wanted dead look guilty for murder.

No crime should be punished by death. It is immoral, and expensive. To those who say it saves money, we actually spend more by giving them as many appeals as they want before being executed. It's less expensive to have life in jail.
It's less expensive to provide food, shelter, and, get this, cable tv?

We're not talking about America here, there are representives of other countries in here too with a non-stuffty court system and bad prison systems. In Finland and other Scandinavian countries people are trying to turn the prisoners into actual good people by making their jail time more enjoyable than a punishment. In Finnish prison you don't go around in a grey box sleeping and crying in a corner. You're in a comfy room watching TV for 12 years max, you can do whatever you want from different activities which include playing football outside, making register plates and so on. Finland doesn't support capital punishment, but it would save a lot of tax money if they did.

Im pretty sure it would be cheaper just to execute everyone on deaths row. Its keeping the Inmates locked up and paying for all their food and stuff thats making us have to spend all the money.
Actually it costs more due to the appeals, lawyers, and each person has to go through the supreme court.  It can cost millions.

The actual drugs used are relatively cheap (under a $1000 usually ~$100)

Again, it's not about money.
You also need to remember that we execute people because they're hazards to everyone around them. Even people in the highest security prisons need to come into contact with the guards every so often.
