Author Topic: Need help installing Ubuntu  (Read 372 times)

I was wanting to try out Ubuntu, Without getting rid of Windows 8.

I have a Dell Inspiron 3520 Laptop, and I was wanting to install Ubuntu on an 8 Gigabyte flash drive, so I can choose to boot my laptop in Ubuntu when ever I want.

Can anyone help me?

Get a usb and install it like that.

1. Download the Ubuntu 12.10 or 12.04 .ISO file.
2. Download Linux Live USB Creator.
3. Format flash drive to FAT32.
4. Open Linux live USB Creator.
4a. Choose your flash drive from the first menu.
4b. Chose the "ISO / IMG / ZIP" Option.
4c. If you did not do step 3, select "Format the key in FAT32".
 4d. Click the lighting icon.
5. Turn off your computer.
6. Go into boot options on startup, should say which button to press when it boots up.
7. Select the USB flash drive for boot.
8. Select the "Install alongside Windows" option.
9. When your computer boots, you should be able to select which OS the run in.
10. Select whichever OS your want (Ubuntu 12.xx or Windows 8).

i'm pretty sure there's an ubuntu installer, which would be way easier to install and remove than all of this USB bullstuff

I would do that, but I am wanting to be able to boot it from the usb alone, not having to put it on the hard drive.

And I wasn't sure on which guide I needed to follow, but reading the one pacnet posted, I figured it out, and planning to do it over night.
