Author Topic: Blockland mod market system?  (Read 15605 times)

Why would addons and servers be abandonned? nobody would pay to join a server and get addons
THEREFORE THOSE ADDONS AND SERVERS ARE ABANDONNED
That doesn't make any sense. By the way, right now I could charge players to join my server, but I don't because no one would join, unless I had a really neat mod that people wanted to play.
thanks for proving my point
it was real nice of you

This is a horrible idea, its so bad that we would become worse than Roblox, and on top of that Blockland would be instantly killed.

This is like if Blockland was bought by EA and then powered by origin.
In other words"Worst Idea 2013"

unless I had a really neat mod that people wanted to play.

Dude did you seriously not read that part ^.^

If I never read since the first page then I would of never posted here.
And now thanks to that I am authorized to use this image:

I understand that its your opinion and you can freely speak, but honestly this is a bad if not horrible idea.

Ok well why has it worked for other games? Again remember, only mods that have been worked on for a lot of man hours + is creative + had a demand, would be the ones costing money.

So basicly what you guys are saying is that you would rather have medicore mods, with a few good ones here and there, vs. free medicore mods, with a lot of good ones that costs a little bit of money (my guess is around 1$ - 5$ per nice mod and maybe evenup to 20$ for mods that are complete game changers).

For a nice example, again I'll use the Mount and Blade series. They actually have taken a mod that the community created for free, and now charge people for it( I'm sure they have a nice arrangement with the people who made it). They still have litteraly hundreds of free community made mods that people are more then welcome to download.

I was actually responding to The Resonte

I think a lot of the opposition to my idea comes from people who are worried about having to pay for fancy things.

Not everyone is Rich, this would kill a big part of the community.
Also we have addons here not mods that change the way the game completely works from the ground up if thats what you mean by "Mediocore Mods."

And yes i rather have what you call "Mediocore Mods"

It hasn't killed other communities who have done the same thing.

By mods I mean any additions to the game, or changes.

i don't understand how adding prices would inspire people to make better addons
well might technically but for fame and fortune instead of wanting to please the community which for me is a better motive
also
ok

heres something that we cannot do except if we're glass
1-5 dollars FOR A SINGLE MOD
$20 DOLLARS
FOR A MOD
REALLY

the difference is that this is blockland
not some other game
blockland is different
it's like that one turret that says "i'm different"
pay 20 dolalrs
NOTHNG MORE
NOTHING
AT ALL
except for donations
donations is allowed i suppose

Why are you guys arguing if it's not gonna be added.

As much fun as it is to help out the community, making money for a living is a need we have in our society.

No one would buy mods and any mod sold with end up with someone just making the same thing but free. and mods would be sent around, no matter what you do. there is no way to determine if someone bought a mod or didn't, because the only realistic way would be to track every mod and to store whether or not the person bought it, which would make development impossible.
good job, you just made the stufftiest concept since the Westboro Baptist Church

Obviously if it was implemented, the only way for it to work would be for Badspot to make some kind of system where you would need a key to play the mod, just like you need a key to play blockland.

I thought that the whole point of selling plugins and modifications for programs was so developers can keep developing for professional programs like Sony Vegas or FL Studio.

The whole point of selling things is to make a profit.

It makes me sad to see that you guys think free is best. Free is the enemy of quality. If we want quality mods, we need them to cost money. There will still be our medicore addons (no offence to the scripters :p) for free, and again, other games do the same thing and its proven to work. Name one person who is willing to spend 7+ hours a day developing something for free, while having an income of
0$. Quality isn't free.

Heck, mods can even be better then the original game its self.
