Author Topic: Papers, Please - A Dystopian Document Thriller - Now on Steam!  (Read 13768 times)

Initial Notes: The developer stopped updating the beta and alpha versions of the game extremely early on, so they lack an abundance of content the full game has. It is recommended to use the full game for the full experience.

Quote from: http://dukope.com/
The communist state of Arstotzka has ended a 6-year war with neighboring Kolechia and reclaimed its rightful half of the border town, Grestin.

Your job as immigration inspector is to control the flow of people entering the Arstotzkan side of Grestin from Kolechia. Among the throngs of immigrants and visitors looking for work are hidden smugglers, spies, and terrorists. Using only the documents provided by travelers and the Ministry of Admission's primitive inspect, search, and fingerprint systems you must decide who can enter Arstotzka and who will be turned away or arrested.

In this game, you verify documentation to control entry to your home country, Arstotzka. You must compare documentation for relevancy to the entrant, what is spoken, each other, and so on. As the game progresses, the difficulty in identifying discrepancies slowly builds up. You will gain a tool which aids you in identifying discrepancies, as well as enabling you to conduct certain actions based on discrepancies. After three penalties in incorrectly addressing entrants, your pay will be deducted, disabling you from allocating income effectively to your family and basic needs, so diligence is required. The game has basic modding ability, as well.

Damn...

Judging by the trailer this is the kinda game i would play..

Voting.

I'm guessing you have to approve some forms too

You approve or deny depending on matching data. Early on, if data doesn't match, they just go. Later on, there is stricter procedure. They might turn up missing documentation if you question them instead of straight denying them. As the game goes on, there can be more discrepancies with their documents, and you have to be keen on all of them. It's fun in a challenging way. You look over a paper, let them in, get in trouble. "What? Damn it, the one time I didn't check gender." xD

bureaucracy: the game
releases to rave reviews!

such a loving fantastic game - I'm really good at it too. by the end of the beta, my friends dubbed me "hawk-eye Max"
so I submitted my name as Max Hawkovich or something like that
also, you should include the moral system in the OP.
sometimes you can choose to let a person through even if their documents are invalid, if they have a convincing reason
and they'll usually award you with a little token
it really helps build upon the story

I thought that system of being rewarded for letting some in wasn't fully functional yet - so it only seemed like they gave you something. Maybe I'm wrong/thinking of the wrong version. Anyway, glad you all like it.

The game has updated from v0.5.5 to v0.5.7. Minor changes and fixes, but keep informed for whatever major update is next.

Game updated from v0.5.7 to v0.5.11. Added very basic modding ability, fixes, clearer hints on what can be confusing first time situations.

...Is she daft or something?
At least TRY to make the names REMOTELY similar. Fool.

Think of it like this: They must basically play the same game you are when forging documents, by taking from others or just running things through their systems. They are bound to make the same mistakes we do in missing discrepancies. :P
