So yea apparently the new Xbox will require you to install your games to your hard drive.

Now everyone is freaking out about this saying that you wont be able to play used games. I think people are jumping the gun way to soon. I think you'll have to install the games making for faster booting times and the Xbox heating up because the disc drive doesnt have a game in there thats spinning.

So what do you guys think about this?

Wow, why are people against used games so much? I mean, someone  may not be able to afford paying $60 bucks for a game or another guy may wants to be able to buy three games for one.

I think it is a nice feature. If you lose the disk, you could still play the game.
Why use a disk? Why not a cartridge? Can you even you a cartridge? Why not something like a usb? so many possibilites aaaaaaaaaaa

Their reasoning is that you can basically buy a game at a cheaper price with (almost) the same quality
I bought a used game for $20 dollars (New = 60$) The used game didn't had anything unlocked and only had a few save files from the start.

What game was it that you bought? because I haven't heard of save files being on the game itself since cartridges.

It was some game for the 3ds
which uses cartridges

Right, Forgot about those because I haven't used a DS in ages...

It won't matter to me until a year before the Xbox after the Durango is released.

hard drives can fail sooner than other more reliable sources of storage, so when it fails, you get to buy a whole new hard drive from Microsoft.

wrong. the disk has to be in the disk drive to play. it's this way on x360 and will be the same for durango. while durango (apparently) does not support playing from the disc you are still going to need to put the disk in the drive

Why use a disk? Why not a cartridge? Can you even you a cartridge? Why not something like a usb? so many

cartridges are old and disks make more sense for consoles these days. putting games on a USB and selling them is more expensive than just a disk and also stupid.

their reasoning is that when you buy used, none of the money goes back to the publisher/devs

I think it's a good thing to make used games impossible to play. I was against it at first, but then I got thinking...

No used games = More people buy new
More people buy new = More money for devs
More money for devs = Happy devs
Happy devs = Lower prices for games
Lower prices for games = Frowned upon $60 release
Frowned upon $60 release = All games cost less
All games cost less = Games affordable for all
Games affordable for all = More purchases
More purchases = More motivation to make quality games
More motivation to make quality games = Quality games

this is so far away from how the industry works it's not even funny lmao

Then forget the economy

Or what realistically will happen, the devs will still sell games at $60 and make even more money...why would they reduce their prices to lower profit?
The people buying used games are buying it to either 1. Save money, or 2. Cannot afford the price, so if they're buying used anyways there is actually a gain in profit rather than a loss because the people wanting to save are now forced to dish out full price and they get money for it rather than retailers that sell used games and those who can't buy it they wouldn't have seen money from anyways.

We can always dream... :(

In ten years = No more new games!
No more new games = Impossible for new people to play!

Let's just not block used games...
