Author Topic: Getting a MacBook Pro Retina 15-inch, but shaders?  (Read 3098 times)

People bash macs so much, but I still have yet to see a good windows laptop.

If I were you, I would steer clear of the retina macs, there's not much of a benefit, seeing as text is really the only thing being improved.  Also games don't run as fast due to the resolution.
It all really depends on what you'll be using it for. More than text is improved, if you're going to be doing things like photo editing or even video editing. Also, resolution can be changed on a whim.

But you've also got a point. The price jump for a retina Mac means you need to really utilize the retina resolution and pixel density.

Sadly, there is nothing really out there that is a solid "gaming laptop"

if you want gaming power, unfortunately you have to be going with a desktop.

my laptop runs games better than my desktop

go away

go away

okay but still my point remains

apparently Alienwares are broken out of the box
RazerBlades are overpriced up the ass
and Asus Republic of Gaming are thick motherforgeters

I don't think overpriced is a valid argument in this case.

alienware is stuff with sparkles on it

RazerBlades are overpriced up the ass

what is this even

The 15" has a nvidia 650 gt, that could probably work
But it has the lion OS, I heard that you cannot use RTB with lion

You signed on for this bullstuff when you bought a Macintosh.

my sig and will alway be my sig dont be a dumb ass and get a mac get anything else but alienware

Why waste so much money on a mac, macs aren't designed for gaming. Buy a cheaper PC or build your own computer.
Why do you guys always want to get in people's business/personal space, if he wants a Mac let him have a mac, accept his choice of computer and just answer his question. You should suggest to him that maybe getting a gaming PC would be "better" not demand that he gets one.
(And the whole macs aren't designed for gaming? There's really no "requirement" for a computer to work for gaming, Linx isn't designed for gaming and can it play games WHAAAT)

@OP, currently shaders on Mac causes some weird lines on the entire screen, the highest setting you can go without everythig looking broken is minimum. Probably the only way to fix this right now is that you can install windows on your Mac and have both the Windows OS and the Mac OS. You need a windows installation cd and a Mac installation cd/USB.

i purchased an alienware about 3 years ago and i've had no problems.

just because you buy a single one and it comes broken on accident and for some reason you DON'T return it for full price and a new one <-- (why the hell not?) doesn't mean it's bad. i can still run modern games at high graphics without issues.

I got Windows 8, but I didnt know shaders will work on it because  both of them uses the same graphics card.

Also, thanks for stopping these idiots from bashing Macs.

Well yes it depends on the card also I forgot to mention that, if you get the Macbookpro 15inch that has Intel HD you can't run shaders even on windows. However if you get the AMD Radeon one you will be able to run shaders on Windows. (Regardless of graphics card you won't be able to run shaders on Mac for some incompatibility issue or something with the drivers, I think there's something that shaders requires and it's missing from the drivers.

And about the Mac thing I personally don't like Mac, I like the OS and the way it looks/works and everything but I don't like it because the computers are  expensive but I don't care much if someone wants to buy it, I'll just answer their question. (Off-Topic: I think there's a way to run Mac on a PC now you just need compatible hardware and you need to have purchased the new lion OS or whatever it's called from the App Store.)

I have a macbook pro 13" and I don't think it has Retina display. I can only run shaders on minimum.

Yes fairly well maybe even run max

It actually depends

Actually since it is a laptop newer games you can't run unless you upgrade the laptop and its kinda difficult to do but that Mac book maybe able to run minimum very well idk I have a windows pc

And the retina display has nothing to do with the graphics setting it won't make it better or worse its just what your computer can handle

And macs arnt ment for games they are ment for picture editing stuff movies and stuff like that

And alien ware desktops are kinda good but the laptops are just lit up all nice so you think the laptop it self is nice

Exactly the same MacBook and same problem.

Why cant Badspot fix the shaders problem on Mac?
