Author Topic: GTA IV is unplayable [PC]  (Read 965 times)

I'm having a very odd problem with GTA IV. I bought it on Steam while it was on sale a couple of days ago and I played a bit. I didn't get very far, and I'm now unable to continue.

See, I'm at the mission where I have to pick up this Jermaine guy and drive him to wherever. I am able to pick him up and proceed, until my computer shuts down.

The screen doesn't freeze or anything, it just shuts down with no warning. I'm not having any lag either, so it can't really be performance issues.

It has happened three times in a row now, and it's only on that one mission. It's not a power outage, I can still turn on my computer right after and it works just fine.

So yeah, I can't even play the game anymore. Has this happened to anyone else?

Make sure your computer has the right specs to play it.

The game runs fine.

Load an earlier save and play a bit to see if it works. It could be some insane bug with that specific mission,

while you're at it you should get simple native trainer

Is it a blue screen?  Do you get a message something along the lines of "the computer recovered from an error" when you reboot?  Is your hardware overheating?

It's not a blue screen, but there is indeed a message like that when I reboot. I don't really know if it's overheating, the temperature feels pretty normal.

I'll try lowering some graphics settings.

Edit: It happened again, it lasted a lot longer this time though. I reduced my memory usage a lot. I see now that the computer's gotten really hot.
