I managed to keep my youtube channel without getting into Google+
The reason I really didn't want to go into Google+ (or any social media sites really) was because I enjoy have the internet be like a second lifestyle where almost nobody can attribute the actions of "Pecon7" to me in real life.

All you have to do is select "keep my current name", that's it. It's optional to merge with Google+.
I have a Google account including a YouTube account but I don't have a Google+ account.

No, it isn't optional to merge with G+. I had removed G+ from my Youtube a while ago and it just randomly came back up. I removed it, and like I said, it removed my YT account all together.

Yeah, but I'm not seeing the issue with having them linked if it doesn't do anything. And apparently the name thing (which I could see as being an issue) has an easy fix that Port just mentioned.

Um, I use Google, just not Google+. And I don't watch videos.

That's odd, because when I unlinked my g+ account all it did was unlink the account and my youtube channel was completely fine.

Okay, Bahamut, specifically what does linking them do?

Whenever you post comments it uses your G+ name (full name), links everything you do on Youtube to your Google account, etc. It's like linking your Facebook account to your Youtube account, but like I said, it's just a huge clusterforget.

Can't you do what Port said and use your fake name, anyway? And you have no interest in using Google+ so having it spammed with YouTube stuff shouldn't matter.
